Formal Definition
A sentence is a group of words that are put together to
mean something. A sentence is the basic unit of
language which expresses a complete thought.

1. Assertive= It tells something
2. Interrogative= To ask, know something
3. Imperative= To order, advise, request, permission
4. Optative= To pray or Wish
5. Exclamatory= To express emotion
Assertive Someone is coming to me.
Interrogative What is your name?
Imperative Please, Give me your cell-phone No.
Optative May you live long.
Exclamatory Yea! I got it.

Phrase
A group of words, which makes sense, but not complete sense, is called a
Phrase. It is a group of related words without a Subject and a Verb.
Few Examples:
1. cats and dogs
2. A man of letters
3. at length
Clause
Clause means a grope of words, but there is a Subject, A Finite verb.
