 Between 1900 and 1920 the African American
neighborhoods doubled.
 They brought with them not only the
institution and business neccessary to
support themselves but a vast array of
talents and ambitions.
 This area soon became known as "The Black
Mecca" and "The Capital of Black America."

advocated the reuniting of all people of
African ancestory into one community.

 National Urban League trained blacks to
work and to get an education.

 Slavery and oppression were the two main
reasons that African Americans started the
Harlem Renaissance.

 One of the best speakeasies was a cotton club
where only African American entertainers
could perform at them.
 Most performed Jazz at these clubs.
