3.  Permanent mold casting, sometimes referred
to as gravity die casting, a metal mold
consisting of two or more parts is repeatedly
used for the production of many castings of the
same form. The liquid metal enters the mold by
gravity. Simple removable cores are usually
made of metal, but more complex cores are
made of sand or plaster. When sand or plaster
cores are used, the process is called
semipermanent mold casting.

4.  Permanent mold casting is typically used for
high volume production of small, simple metal
parts with uniform wall thickness. Non-ferrous
metals are typically used In this process, such
as aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, and
copper alloys. However. Irons and steels can
also be cast using graphite molds. Common
permanent mold parts include gears and gear
housings, pipe fittings, and other automotive
and air craft components such as pistons,
impellers, and wheels.

12.  Not all alloys are suitable for permanent mold
casting
 Because of relatively high tooling costs, the
process can be prohibition expensive for low
production pantities
 Some shapes cannot be made using
permanent mold casting, because of parting
line location, undercuts or difficulties in
removing the casting from the mold
 Coating are required to protect the mold from
attack by the molten metal

pump bodies, connecting rods, pistons etc.
