6. • Basti dravya due to its prabhava, spreads from
sole of the foot uptill murdha or head
• It not only removes the doshas present in
pakvashaya but throughout the body
• Quoted a simile like sun being stagnent, it
absorbs the moisture from whole of the earth
• Similarly basti being stagnent in pakvashaya
does sarva sharira stitha dosha nirharana/ it
expels the dosha from all over the body.
8. • This sloka signifies about the prabhava of basti
dravya like its spread from pada tala upto murdha
• Pakvashaya sthitha can be taken as pakvashaya
sthita dosha(vata) and pakvashayasthita basti
dravya
• Svabhava sambhadya can be taken as virya of
basti dravya or its wide spread action which is its
inherent quality
• Pachanadi prayoga naam na can taken as basti’s
action exceeds the action of pachanadi dravya as
basti conquers sarva sharirika doshas
• kha astha refers to aakasha which accomodates
sun just like the pakvashaya which accomodates
basti dravya
12. • Dalhanacharya mentions, his view about virya
of basti dravya
• Even though basti is residing in eka sthana i.e,
pakvashaya it expels out doshas from all the
body parts
• He also adds that such sloka is not mentioned
elsewhere.
14. • Pakavashaya sthita basti due to its virya spreads
through the strotas, here kha can be co-related
with strotas, visarpati to the quick spread in
various directions in side the body
• Acharya has compared it with simile water
poured to the root spreads to whole plant
• Here moola can be taken as pakvashaya, nishikta
is to irrigate, here we are irrigating pakvashaya
with basti dravya
• Due to the inherent virya of basti dravya it
spreads all over the body like water spreads
through druma/plant

which contains kusumbadi dravya in the same
manner dravibhuta mala in sharira is expelled
out of the body through basti karma

present in kusumba kumkumadi yukta dravya

• In similar sense doshas and dhatus present in
kaya/ shareera become unsteady/agitated due
to the basti virya and only the doshas are

• Acharyas have tried to explain the mode of
action of basti dravyas by quoting various
simile
• Vishesha sthana of vata dosha being
pakvashaya
• Basti not only does vata shamana but due to
its virya and prabhava reaches to all the body
parts through minute strotas and expels
vikruta doshas out of the body.
