2. Monkeys
General Classification
Monkeys are arboreal mammals in the primate
order. Monkeys are clever, animals who are famous
for climbing trees easily. Almost every monkey has a
tail, even if it is very short.
3. Decription
What Do They Look
Monkey has a lot of hair at the entire part of
their body. The hair functions as protection from rain
and weather. They has a big ear. Monkey usually use
their nose to smell their food and something that can
make them in danger. Monkeys have long arms and
legs to help them swing from trees. Some monkeys'
tails can wrap tightly around branches, almost like a
"fifth limb".
4. Where They Live
There are two groups of monkeys that live in
different places: the New World Monkeys in South
America and the Old World Monkeys from Africa and
Asia. New World Monkeys are often smaller than Old
World Monkeys. Most monkeys are arboreal (live in
the trees), but some live on the ground.
Monkeys can live in forests, savannahs, deserts
and even in snowy mountains, but they are most
commonly found in rainforests, except for Australia
and New Guinea.
5. Behaviour
Like all the other monkeys, monkey gang
consisting of a mixture of male and female. Female
monkeys can be more numerous than male monkeys
with a ratio of 4:1. Maintenance on young monkeys
and territory surveillance duties are shared among
the group. While female monkeys usually live in
peace, the males usually often noisily among
themselves.
They can be kept as pets but due to their high
intelligence and advanced emotional needs are not
suggested
6. Their Size
Some monkeys are very small, about 15
centimetres long and 120 grams in weight, while
other monkeys can be very big, about 1 metre long
and 35 kilograms in weight.
7. Their Food
Monkeys eat fruit, leaves, insects, flowers,
small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, crabs or
even other monkeys.
