1. Narratives:
Our music video ‘Cosmic Love’utilise a circular dream
sequences narrative structure to illustrate the tone of
hope and personal anguish. We chose to set the video
in a victorian era because the story. The narrative of
the video exists in an exact time and place space,
anchorage to reality by the famous location and an era
mise en scene. In our imaginary narrative, the video
rejects narrative expectations such as an equilibrium
– disequilibrium – new equilibrium to represent the
theme of the song.We chose this narrative structure
because it could attract our audience watching, just
like a TV drama, audiences are curious that they want
to know the end of the story. Our enigma was people
don’t know what happened before in this relationship
and also what is going to happen in the future.
The video starts with an equilibrium sequence, both
characters are in the painting, which suggests their
living conditions. Then, by the sequence of she jump
out the painting, the initial equilibrium is broke, a
disequilibrium represent her true feelings, she is not
2. as happy as what she looks like in the painting. The
story reached the climax by her fast dancing sequence
what shows she want to get away from her resent life,
she has the hope in her heart that she want the life
she want and loved. With Bronte go back to the
painting again at the end, a new equilibrium is
created to show that she has not succeed, what
happened is only her dream.
As Claude Levi- Strauss’s idea, a clear binary
opposites is shown between two characters, the
relationship is shown as complicated. In our music
video where two characters are on the boat, Thomas
was trying to catch Bronte, Bronte looks afraid by the
emotion on her face, which showed the audience their
binary opposites to each other. By Barthes theory, the
puzzle of our video for the audience is that Bronte
tries to run away at the begging, but people don’t
know if she succeeds or not which could attract the
audience.
There is many music video used a circular narrative
structure like our music video, such as ‘The
3. Scientist’ by Coolplay, and ‘Wide Awake’ by Katy
Parry.
The music video ‘Wide Awake’ by Katy Parry utilizes a
circular narrative structure which is the same as ours.
She used the mirror as the medium of the real world
and imaginary world, which distinguish the narratives
of her story, and this is similar to the frame in our
video.
