people use to find

The difference is in how
they get and organize their
information.
Search engines use little
programs called spiders or
bots that scour the
Internet, follow links, and
bring back this information
to the search
engine's index.
A web crawler (also known as
a web spider r web robot) is a
program or automated script
which browses the World
Wide Web in a methodical,
automated manner.
This process is called Web
crawling or spidering. Many
legitimate sites, in particular
search engines, use spidering
as a means of providing up-to-
date data
Crawling is the process performed by search engine crawler, when searching for
relevant websites on the index. For instance, Google is constantly sending out
"spiders" or "bots" which is a search engine's automatic navigator to discover which
websites contain the most relevant information related to certain keywords
Crawling
An index is another name for the database used by a search engine. It contains
information on all the websites the search engine was able to find. If a website is
not in a search engine’s index, users will not be able to find it using that search
engine. Search engines regularly update their indexes.

1994, spun out of Carnegie Mellon University. Lycos also
encompasses a network of email, webhosting, social
networking, and entertainment websites.
 Infoseek was a popular search engine founded in
1994 by Steve Kirsch.
 Infoseek was originally operated by the Infoseek
Corporation, headquartered in Sunnyvale,
California.
 Infoseek was bought by The Walt Disney
Company in 1998, and the technology was
merged with that of the Disney-acquired
Starwave to form the Go.com network. Since
then it has been replaced with Yahoo! search
and is no longer in use.
