Driving video ubiquity by enabling Video-as-a-Service from the cloud requires open standards and interoperability to connect and traverse all the different carriers’ network technologies and business systems. Achieving ubiquity does not lie within the power of any one customer, equipment manufacturer, service provider, or standards body to solve. It takes a concerted effort by the industry to solve the inherent challenges. Polycom is active in helping develop the commercial and technical solutions necessary to ensure interoperability across a global partner ecosystem.
In June 2011, Polycom partnered with leading global telecommunications service providers from around the world to unleash broader visual communications adoption by enabling interoperability and global business-to-business (B2B) connectivity for telepresence and video conferencing. The Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC), of which Polycom was a founding member, was incorporated in August 2011.
This graphic shows the Polycom video solution portfolio for Microsoft. Polycom offers a variety of end-to-end solutions—from desktops, to meeting rooms of varying sizes, to board-room types of custom environments, to immersive telepresence suites.
Please note that the immersive telepresence solution (RPX, OTX, ATX) is connected through RMX.

Our vision is to make it possible for millions of people to use video collaboration as their preferred method of communicating – easily, reliably and securely – no matter what network, carrier, protocol, application or device they use.
Just touch to connect and collaborate.
Only through open standards and native interoperability can all these disparate parts work together seamlessly.
This chart depicts Polycom® RealPresence® Video Solutions. The foundation layer of core networking and security sits at the bottom.
Our software platform sits in between the foundation layer and the application layer, in the blue box.
The yellow bar represents the services Polycom and its partners offer for the entire lifecycle of RealPresence Video Solutions from design to delivery to adoption to management to optimization.
Above that is the application layer – business and communication applications provided primarily by our partners.
And above that you see you see the environments in which customers use our solutions whether on the go with RealPresence Mobile for tablets and smartphones, at home with RealPresence Laptop or Desktop, at work with RealPresence Desktop or RealPresence Room, in conference rooms with RealPresence Room Systems, or immersive theaters with RealPresence Immersive, regardless of the networks, protocols, or devices individual participants are using.
Now, let me draw your attention back to the bright blue box – the RealPresence Platform. There are 5 key components, or functional modules, to the Platform.
Universal Video Collaboration – software for multipoint video, voice, and content collaboration that connects multiple protocols, enabling people and content to connect at the highest quality for the lowest cost. (You know this as RMX.)
Video Resource Management – software to centrally manage, monitor, and deliver video collaboration across an organization. (You know this as CMA.)
Virtualization Management – software for managing and distributing calls across collaboration networks with the scalability, redundancy, and resiliency – up to 25,000 concurrent sessions and 75,000 device registrations on up to 64 video servers – needed for global enterprises and cloud deployments. (You know this as DMA.)
Universal Access and Security – software that easily and securely connects video participants inside and outside the organization while optimizing for the best collaboration experience, whether delivered within the enterprise, business-to-business, or business-to-consumer. (You know this as VBP.)
Video Content Management – software for secure video capture (recording and playback) as well as content management, administration, and delivery of video content. (Our Accordent solutions.)
Enterprises need a video conferencing solution that supports all necessary use cases across and beyond the enterprise with the scale, reliability and flexibility required of any mission-critical system… as well as a solution that supports the delivery model of your choice.
Polycom enterprise software solutions are always built on such a foundation: Polycom® RealPresence® Platform, the most comprehensive software infrastructure for universal video collaboration.
Most deployments are premises-based today, but going forward we’ll see a mix of both premises-based and cloud delivery options, whether the cloud is private, public or hybrid.
Our RealPresence solution is truly “enterprise-grade,” with unmatched capabilities in high availability, scalability, reliability and security – all required for a cloud architecture.
