things. Similes differ from
metaphors by highlighting the
similarities between two things
using words such as "like” or "as”
EXAMPLES:
He is as busy as a bee
They fought like cats and dogs
6. Metaphor
• is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true,
but helps explain an idea or make a comparison.
EXAMPLES:
Love is a battlefield.
Bob is a couch potato.
A metaphor is the comparison of
two unlike things or expressions,
sometimes using the verb “to be,”
and not using like or as (as in a
simile).

• Is the attribution of a
personal nature or
human characteristics to
something nonhuman, or
the representation of an
abstract quality in human
form.
EXAMPLES:
Rita heard the last piece of
pie calling her name.

morning.
