Pickens County School District
Location: South Carolina
Pickens County Schools
switches to cloud-based web
filtering solution to keep
16,500 students safe online.
Any device. Anywhere. Secure.
Pickens County is comprised of 24 schools, which include
14 elementary schools, five middle schools, and four high schools.
The district houses over 16,500 students and 1,300 staff. Before
Securly, these schools were using a Palo Alto Networks firewall, which
required them to manually block websites and applications from
school-owned devices such as computers, laptops, and tablets.
Securly’s cloud-based IT solution allowed Pickens county schools
to scale to higher bandwidth with ease by eliminating the appliance
web filter bottleneck. Barbara Nesbitt, Director of Instructional Tech,
along with her 15 staff oversee and manage the entire IT setup.
Paul White, Systems Administrator, and Andy Coleman, Network
Specialist, are both responsible for deploying software, image
handling, and server buildup. Pickens has also eliminated the IT
bottleneck from tasks such as pulling reports of student activity by
offloading them to school level staff.
Securly’s cloud-based solution
allowed Pickens county
schools to eliminate bandwidth
bottlenecks and offload web
filter administration to
school-level staff.
