THE PROJECT
15. MOTIVATION
Innovation in vocabulary acquisition
-Software / ICT Engineering is very closely related to
english (docs, programming languages, research, …)
-B1 now required to study Masters degrees at ULL
-Specialized vocabulary in the field was being taught
-Wide usage of ICT among students
-Previous collaborations among the authors and
desire to innovate
38. THE EXPERIMENT
SUBJECTS
Technical English (2nd grade)
English for Special Purposes (ESP), geared
towards the use of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT)
Project Management (3rd grade)
Basics of Project Management, including the
development of a project in groups of 4
Both subjects are taught during 1 semester and
have 6 ECTS credit points (60 contact hours + 90
autonomous study hours)

GENERAL
Groups
-20 students in Technical English
-89 students in IT Project Management
Sessions
-30 minutes of explanation (1st session)
-Teacher suggestions sent weekly
-2 hours in the lab weekly
-Work at home

PM practices
-First 20 mins to add vocabulary
-Last 15 mins for self-assessment tests
-Teacher reviewed the dashboard, sent
suggestions and gave some general &
individual feedback

TECHNICAL ENGLISH
TE practices
-First 20 mins to add vocabulary
-Read and discuss IT articles
-30-50 words per week
-300-500 words in total
-Switching to VN from Excel
-Teacher feedback used to adapt classes
(e.g. help with categories)
