1. How does my media product represent social groups?
My media product represents various social groups throughout. I will explain how it represents each
social group.
Musicians
I think that my magazine represents musicians in a good way. It represents them to be laid back,
individual and enthusiastic in what they are doing. A good
example of this is in my front cover as you can see on the
right. This is evident in his posture of leaning back a little
with a bit of a smile; he has his instrument with him and
the headline on how he ‘shows us how to play an
awesome bass solo’. I think the graffiti around the main
image and the clothes the cover star is wearing does
represent musicians in my magazine in a punk kind of
way. This is because the graffiti suggests a rebellious
action and the tartan clothes show a little individuality
this being similar to the way punks behave.
Indie rockers
I think that my magazine represents indie-rockers with
the clothing they wear. Indie rockers wear quite
individual clothing so in my main image for the front
cover I got the coverstar to wear tartan and red skinny
jeans to show some individuality like the indie-rock music
genre. Also I represented the indie-rockers with clothing
with the image for my double page spread as I have Andy Mullarkey a
member of the band I was interviewing wearing denim all over.
Gender
My magazine unfortunately doesn’t represent females at all. This was not a
deliberate thing however in the images that I have taken I did not include
any women in the images or articles. This may have been due to who I was
making them about and who I know that is involved in music
however I did not include women in my magazine and this has led to my magazine being male
dominated which isn’t good because it won’t get many female readers as it doesn’t represent
females in any way.
