who helps with First Friday.
Gardner was given an appreciation gift of two tickets to "Hair" at the
Straz Center later in the year. He was also given a "gift" of a tiny, foam
gavel so he can always have one to ring the bell.
A recap of Ronald McDonald house, the Halloween Party, and the Trop
was given.
Those who are interested in the Hard Rock Casino trip will meet there at
2:00 PM on Sunday, November 14th in the lobby area.
We've opted not to pursue gift wrapping with Hospice this year again.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Already?MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Already?MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Already?MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Already?
The Annual Zone 9 Christmas Party is beyond the
planning stage and you are invited.
Sponsored by the Downtown Club, it is set for
Tuesday, Dec. 21st at Gigi’s in South Pasadena.
Bring your appetite (at 6 p.m.) and unwrapped
presents for the young ladies at Brookwood
(gift cards are okay, too).
Gifts may include anything girls would need or appreciate. We’ll have
a speaker from Brookwood and will send the presents off with her.
We will have separate checks and you can order from the early bird
menu.
Gardner and Moonie Harshman have organized the party and would
like to know how many from your club will attend. E-mail them at
gharshman@tampabay.rr.com

The first meeting was on Oct. 7 at
Gigi’s in South Pasadena with 21
Optimists in attendance.
Representatives were there from St.
Petersburg, Raymond James,
Downtown, Breakfast, Sunday Brunch
and Sunset clubs.
Reports were heard about Youth
Appreciation (banquet scheduled for
Thursday, Nov. 18), Oratorical
Contest, Essay Contest, CCDHH, Just
Say No Posters, Easter Egg Hunt,
Respect For Law, OI Foundation, New
Clubs, Communications and Internet
Safety.
Clubs were encouraged to “steal” the
Traveling Gavel by sending a
delegation of five members plus two
officers to a regular meeting of the
club holding the gavel. At this time it is
with Sunset Club with president Kim
Borsick. Contact her at
rborsick@tampabay.rr.com.
Thank you for your help.

A great big "Thank You" to
every one of you for a fantastic
weekend at the 1st Quarter
Conference in Cape
Canaveral. We have had great
reviews and comments from
the attendees and it was due
in large part to your
participation and enthusiasm.
The energy and excitement
from everyone was infectious
and made the whole weekend
special.
Let's take that energy and
make sure that this district is
one of Danny's Awesome
Achievers. Grab a couple of
Optimists and find a new
member to add to your
club. Please get the message
out to every club you come in
contact with, whether as a
member, a club officer or a Lt.
Governor.
I'm looking forward to a
fantastic year with you!
Governor Daniel Rich

At the recent zone meeting, we discussed another zone yard sale to be
held in January in Ric & Betty Jo’s Club 28 parking lot. If your club is
interested, please let me know so that we know when and how to plan
for this event. It would be the same as the last one. Each club would
have their own personal section and be responsible only for their goods.
The last one was a big success. The only cost to your club would be a
portion of the ad cost, which would be divided by the number of clubs
participating.
Even if you are not interested, please reply so that we know how many
clubs will be participating.
Of course, each club is expected to clean up their mess after the
sale. It is expected of us to leave the parking in a clean condition. They
do have a dumpster but we cannot expect to use it to dispose of our left
overs, as they use it for their business. For what it’s worth, the Hospice
Store in Disston Plaza will accept many items.
Thanks,
Vi Hayworth
Chairperson

Saturday, October 30th from 2 pm to 4 pm was the Halloween party
at the Salvation Army Church for the kids from the Children's
Village and Sallie House. Everyone had a blast! There was a
costume contest, face painting, cake walk, dancing, games and of
course lots of pizzas, which were provided by Papa John's. We
would like to thank the Sunset and Sunday Brunch Club for their
donation of $100 each! It was very much appreciated. The
Halloween party was a great success, just take a look at the pictures!

15. The Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself -
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the
presence of trouble.
