Project Overview 
•The 87-year old Sellwood Bridge in Portland, Oregon 
Weight: 3,400 Tons 
Length: 1,100 Feet 
•Busiest 2 lane bridge in Oregon, with over 30,000 vehicle crossings per day

Limitations 
•The Project was a firm-fixed price bid. According to Multnomah County, the government entity responsible for the bridge, Omega Morgan’s solution saved millions of dollars by reducing up to a year of construction time for the new bridge. 
•The Bridge’s Main Contractor (Slayden / Sundt) hired Omega Morgan to relocate the bridge so it could remain open to traffic during the construction of a new $308 million bridge. 
•The Bridge’s location provided significant additional challenges given surrounding infrastructure (both public and private.) 
•The project required minimal traffic disruption.

  • 3. Project Overview •The 87-year old Sellwood Bridge in Portland, Oregon Weight: 3,400 Tons Length: 1,100 Feet •Busiest 2 lane bridge in Oregon, with over 30,000 vehicle crossings per day
  • 6. Limitations •The Project was a firm-fixed price bid. According to Multnomah County, the government entity responsible for the bridge, Omega Morgan’s solution saved millions of dollars by reducing up to a year of construction time for the new bridge. •The Bridge’s Main Contractor (Slayden / Sundt) hired Omega Morgan to relocate the bridge so it could remain open to traffic during the construction of a new $308 million bridge. •The Bridge’s location provided significant additional challenges given surrounding infrastructure (both public and private.) •The project required minimal traffic disruption.

Innovation & Ingenuity •Innovation & Ingenuity Required: •The Bridge was required to be relocated very specifically 1.East End - Shifted 33 Feet North 2.West End - Shifted 66 Feet North 3.Entire span shifted 2 Feet East •New techniques demonstrated •Creative Application of Old Techniques •Newly Designed Equipment •Modification to Standard Equipment •Resources Used Economically

Engineering & Planning •Physical Characteristics •1,100 Feet Long •3,400 Tons •87 years old •Site Characteristics •Intruding surrounding infrastructure •Unstable ground causing existing bents to fail •Critical bridge construction timeline and required minimal traffic disruption (less than five day shut down) •Winter job schedule; potential for rain, snow or ice •Job Schedule •Job was completed on time and ahead of schedule (5 days closure planned, 4 days utilized.) •Demonstrated Professionalism •Crews worked tirelessly in cooperation with public and private partners and earned the award for the demolition of the relocated span.
