Opening sequence Pitch - Scott Holliday
1. Opening Sequence
We were given the task to create our own opening
sequence to a fiction film with a genre of our choice. I
have decided to work on my own.
The Genre of my opening sequence is going to be a
Psychological Thriller. I chose this genre because I love
psychological thrillers, and of the 20 questionnaires I
handed out to family and friends, 9 came back with
favourite genres being thriller. And I know that it makes
a better film when the audience have to think more.
Which is why I’m adding the psychological side to the
thriller. Also I think that the fact I like this genre, will help
me when filming. It helped a lot when planning for it.
2. Information
The certificate of my film will be a 15, I made this
decision because there is some violence and bad
language, and the storyline is quite dark and 100% of the
people I asked said they prefer a 15 certificate because it
can vary more.
My target audience for this is going to be mainly male,
from 15 to 50, but perhaps women may also enjoy it.
3. Title
The title of my opening sequence and film is Eye for an eye. I came
to this conclusion as I was thinking something to do with revenge, so
I researched some synonyms and Eye for an eye grabbed my
attention.
I have chosen to go with this kind of design for my film title, because
it gives the atmosphere a sort of eerie effect and it looks quite
disturbed and creepy, which will set the mood and goes with the
genre and theme of my film. It will be in a black screen with white
lettering.
4. Synopsis
A man is seeing his wife off to go out to a friends
house, when she tragically gets run over. 2 years
later the man is still in distress and mourning, so
decides to take revenge on the man who killed his
wife, but there is a twist that will leave you hanging
off the edge of your seats.
5. Character profiles
Steve (Man who’s wife was killed) – This character is in his late 30’s and used
to be a fun loving husband who enjoyed going out with his friends and
spending time with his newly wedded wife. But after the accident, he turns
sinister and vengeful. Played by Ricky Jones.
Jason (Steve’s Acomplis ) – This character is in his early 20’s and enjoys going
out clubbing with his mates. He is very cheeky and loves the women. He
was a bit of a player, but since he met his new lover, he has calmed down
and become more mature. Played by Jamie Fuller.
Ruth (Steve’s Sister) – This character is in her early 40’s and has been
looking after John since he’s wife died as he has been to sad to fend for
himself. She is very caring and a good role model. She reassures him every
day that everything will get easier. Played by Holly Stringer.
6. Important shots
The opening shot in my scene will be a panning shot from
Steve’s feet up to his body and face to show that he is asleep
on the sofa.
In the middle of the sequence, there is a mid shot where it
seems that Steve is looking to take revenge on Jason, because
he is staring at his house from behind a tree.
The closing shot in the sequence is a close up of Steve’s face
as he says ‘Fucking Prick’ Because he is angry that Jason won’t
help him out.
7. Technical Features
• In my opening sequence, I will be using a variety of different
camera shots and angles.
• I will be using match on action in a number of my shots.
• I will be including shot reverse shot and reaction shots during
a conversation.
• I will be using over the shoulder shots of Barry stalking Clive in
the alley way.
• I will not break the 180 degree rule in my opening sequence as
it will destroy the verisimilitude of the sequence.
8. Locations
The first will be in a living room where Steve wakes up.
Then a bathroom where the driver is washing his face.
Then in a hallway where the driver is walking.
Then outside in a front garden where Steve is staring at Jason.
Finally a street where Steve stalks Jason

10. Influences
Some examples of films that influenced me when coming up
with my idea were:
Leon the Professional – This film is a classic example of
revenge, as a girls family is killed so she grows up and takes
revenge on those involved.
Taken – This movie influenced me the most, it is my favourite
example of revenge movie, as a girl is kidnapped, and her
father travels half way around the world to save her and take
revenge on those who captured her. It gave me the idea of
having a woman as the main reason revenge is being taken.
