1. SPECIALISED CELLS
All cells are designed to do a particular job, we say they are specialised. To help them do
their job they can have different features and can be different shapes and sizes.
Look at the drawings of some specialised cells, match each one with its name, function
(job) and features from the lists below.
NAME: FUNCTION & FEATURES:
• Nerve cells • Has no nucleus, large surface area. Carry oxygen.
• Have ‘hair-like’ projections to catch dust.
• Red blood cells • Has a large nucleus. They fight infection.
• Palisade cells • Have many tiny hairs which move to keep airways
clear of dust.
• White blood cells • Have lots of chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
• Windpipe cells • Has many connecting side branches & transmits
information as electrical impulses.
• Root hair cells
