How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves? Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.

Succession “Losers”: What Happens to Executives Passed Over for the CEO Job? By David F. Larcker, Stephen A. Miles, and Brian Tayan Stanford Closer Look Series Overview: Shareholders pay considerable attention to the choice of executive selected as the new CEO whenever a change in leadership takes place. However, without an inside look at the leading candidates to assume the CEO role, it is difficult for shareholders to tell whether the board has made the correct choice. In this Closer Look, we examine CEO succession events among the largest 100 companies over a ten-year period to determine what happens to the executives who were not selected (i.e., the “succession losers”) and how they perform relative to those who were selected (the “succession winners”). We ask: • Are the executives selected for the CEO role really better than those passed over? • What are the implications for understanding the labor market for executive talent? • Are differences in performance due to operating conditions or quality of available talent? • Are boards better at identifying CEO talent than other research generally suggests?

This research examined preservice teacher graduates' positioning toward integrating technology in future teaching. Participants included 115 preservice teachers across three cohorts in 2008-2009 who graduated from a laptop-infused teacher education program. The study implemented a case study methodology that included a survey administered upon graduation.Indicators of positioning toward technology integration included: digital technology self-efficacy, attitude toward learning technologies, pedagogical perspective, personal/educational digital technology behaviors during the program, and TPACK knowledge used to rationalize their most valued technologies for future teaching. Results indicated graduates held moderate digital technology self-efficacy, positive attitude toward learning technologies, and moderate constructivist philosophy. During their preparation, productivity software activities were used most widely for educational purposes.Their most valued technologies for teaching subject matter were predominantly productivity software as well as general hardware, such as computers, projectors, and document cameras. They described teacher-centric uses three times more often than student-centered. Graduates showed low depth of TPACK. Teacher education programs need to consider the degree to which their candidates are exposed to a range of contemporary ICTs, especially content-specific ICTs, and the candidates' development of TPACK, which supports future technology-related instructional decision making. Such knowledge is developed across the teaching career, and technological induction programs may support continued TPACK development.Future research should employ longitudinal studies to understand TPACK development and use across novice and veteran teachers.

IMPACT OF USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN MATHEMATICS LESSONS ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND ATTITUDES RAMADAN EYYAM AND HÜSEYİN S. YARATAN Eastern Mediterranean University Technology use in classrooms in today’s world is believed to have a positive impact on students’ success and their attitudes towards lessons. In this study we investigated students’ attitudes towards technology use in class and whether the use of technology improved their academic achievement. A quasiexperimental research design was used and we assigned 3 groups as experimental groups (n = 41) and 2 as control groups (n = 41). Mathematics was selected as the subject to be studied. All groups completed a pretest and a posttest. For the experimental groups, lessons were designed using several technological tools, whereas lessons for control groups were taught using traditional teaching methods. At the end of the study, the experimental groups completed a scale to investigate the preferences and attitudes of the students in regard to technology-based instruction. One-way ANCOVA was used to evaluate the differences in posttest results, which revealed that the mathematics posttest results of the students who were instructed using technology were significantly higher than the posttest results of the groups who were instructed without technology. Results showed that students had a positive attitude towards technology use. The implications for curriculum designers and teachers are discussed. Keywords: achievement, attitude, quasiexperimental research design, mathematics, technology use. Today in most developed countries technology is being used extensively in classrooms. As Bitter and Pierson (2005) and Wiske, Franz, and Breit (2005) have pointed out, the use of instructional technology in class enhances learning SOCIAL BEHAVIOR AND PERSONALITY, 2014, 42(Suppl.), S31-S42 © Society for Personality Research http://dx.doi.org/10.2224/sbp.2014.42.0.S31 31 Ramadan Eyyam, Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School, Eastern Mediterranean University; Hüseyin S. Despite the literature supporting technology use in schools as beneficial for students, and despite the wide use of social technology, schools continue to be slow to change its integration in the classroom (Livingstone, 2012). It is imperative that teachers increase their use of technology in the classroom in order to prepare our K-12 students referred to as "digital natives," for the 21st century. Though many schools have technology available for use (Alger & Kopcha, 2008), barriers exist in incorporating technology into lesson plans, namely teacher reluctance (Keengwe, Onchwari, & Wachira, 2008). Teachers' hesitation in using technology more frequently is due to a number of factors, such as lack of time to learn new technology and incorporate it into lesson plans, beliefs around using technology in instruction, availability of working technology and technical support, comprehensive professional development, and a culture that promotes using new technology, self-efficacy, and teaching methods (Alger & Kopcha, 2008). Literature Review Self-Efficacy toward Technology According to Bandura (1986) individuals possess a self-system that determines how much effort people will expend on any activity. Bandura also asserts that self-efficacy beliefs may be a strong predictor of related performance. Studies have shown a positive correlation between self-efficacy in technology and technology ability (Anderson & Maninger, 2007; Anderson, Grouulx, & Maninger, 2011). According to the technology acceptance model introduced by Davis (1989), there is a correlation between users' perceived ease of use and predicted adoption of technology. In his study investigating Moodles, Yeou (2016) found self-efficacy to be a critical factor in undergraduates' use of the technology tool. In a similar study investigating pre-service teachers, Albion (2001) found that self-efficacy was the most significant factor in predicting technology use. Pre-service and in-service teachers who possess high self-efficacy in regard to technology are more apt to use technology in the classroom because they are more confident in their ability. In their study investigating teachers' use of technology, Holden and Rada (2011) found that self-efficacy directly influenced individuals' ease of use and usability of technology. Need for Technology Integration With the adoption of the National Education Technology Plan (NETP), providing access to technology is no longer sufficient; the NETP stresses that schools are expected to ensure "all students understand how to use technologies as a tool to engage in creative, productive, lifelong learning" (p. 16 Herold, 2016). A key element in the plan is the need to move from passive to active use of technology. Often referred to as the "digital use and divide," a gap exists between learners who are using technology in active, creative ways to support their learning and those who predominantly use technology for passive content consumption. To develop .

Running head: THE EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES 1 THE EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES 7 The Comparative Studies of the Emerging Technologies Larry Ratliff Jr Strayer University EDU 540 February 4, 2018 Dr. Lori Wijbrandus Question 1: The overall merit of the selected technologies over the ones mentioned in the assignment 1 The integration of the instructional technologies within a classroom setup has the potency of transforming the current/ existing/ modern form of education and institutional learning for students (Kilgo et al., 2015). Nevertheless, the emerging technologies on classroom setup have a massive impact during the implementation. As such, it is predictable that future technologies will offer a considerable benefit to all the stakeholders in the learning system. Furthermore, certain varieties of resources can be instituted in the school curriculum to demonstrate the importance of technology to children’s education. Agreeing with Duque (2014), the technology will always have some significant impact on in student learning as it allows the educator to enhance their lesson. Besides, the developing technologies within the education system help learners advance their technology skills, i.e., digital media literacy. Hence, learners will deploy the theoretical frameworks needed for authentic learning, as well as use technology as a cognitive learning tool (Duque, 2014). Question 2: The similarity and differences between the chosen emerging technologies and the none-chosen emerging technologies addressing: a.) Addressing the needs and challenges inherent in the educational setting or relating to the scenario in the assignment 1 In the task one, some of the learning technologies mentioned include the digital booklets, the whiteboards, and use of Smart gadgets. These technologies vis-à-vis use of laptops, tablets, the PowerPoint are some of the other mentionable emerging technologies in the education sector. All these features consist of instructional learning tools for any classroom setup. Also, these technologies have a massive impact on the child classroom learning process as they can access different apps and resources. Also, teachers can make use of such technologies to include instructional learning and in improving the student digital media literacy (Pruet et al., 2016). Also, these technologies are flexible enabling students to adapt to new learning. However, these technologies may not yield positive learning outcome where the educators lack proper skills in using such technologies in the classroom setup. Also, technical problem with setting up the technology may negatively impact its use (Pruet et al., 2016). As such, teachers must be well prepared and given enough time to incorporate such new technologies to appropriately support the learning environment. Such prospect of preparing and collaborating technologies may be time wasting and may involve a lot of technicalities and risks, e.g., software risks, outages, etc. b.) Important.

An increasing number of educational institutions in the UAE offer or plan to start using web-based mode of course delivery. According to Haughey and Anderson (1998), all types of education are affected as technology is used to enhance and deliver courses online. There are several colleges and universities in the UAE that are considering incorporating online education to support the traditional face-to-face classes in addition to offering courses as distance learning. This presentation outlines the purpose and benefits of online instruction while describing the target audience, required technology, resources, staffing, and necessary curriculum development and quality assurance program to support the delivery of education online.
