2. On Thursday, March 10, in Kyiv presented a
report the Effects of climate change.
Ukraine, prepared by the national weather
service of the United Kingdom in the
framework of cooperation under the
auspices of the United Nations, reports
Kommersant articles Forecast for the years
…
3. However, as the newspaper notes, an
international study has not received an
unambiguous assessment among local
environmentalists.
According to the survey results, in this
century in the Ukraine average
temperatures increase by 5-8 degrees,
leading to a reduction in frost and snow
period is approximately 50 days.
Climate change will lead to precipitation
in the form of heavy rains in the cold
time of the year and the increase
droughts in summer.
4. The document also contains forecasts of
climatic changes and their impact on different
sectors of economy of Ukraine till the end of
the XXI century, based on analysis of the
current ecological situation in the country.
British experts note that their study is one of
the few, who evaluate the situation with climate
in Ukraine, as previously examined the
situation in Europe as a whole. As informed the
Director of hydrometeorological centre Mykola
Kulbida, at present the issues of global
warming are studied in Ukraine, but are not
displayed in the detailed forecasts. "If we take
into account the conclusions of the international
experts, will enable us to prepare for the
upcoming changes in climate, change,
agricultural, energy strategy", - said Mr. Popov.
5. Global warming British meteorologists see a threat
to people's livelihoods and predict the growth of
diseases of cardiovascular system and respiratory
tract, as well as the deaths of older people from
heat stroke. It is assumed that the warming will
have a major impact on the power generation:
"With the increase of temperature will decrease
the demand for heating in the winter, but will grow
the demand for cooling in the summer. Given that
Ukraine's energy infrastructure is very vulnerable more than 95% of the power plants is exhausted
their service life, - there will need careful
management of facilities for production and supply
of electric power ".
6. Director of the Kiev ecological and cultural center Vladimir
Boreiko believes that the expectations of experts on 100
years are meaningless. "From similar studies and reports
it's no use, " said Boreiko .- Scientists around the world
have no consensus on global warming. Our government
needs to solve tactical problems: deforestation, pollution
of air and water quality improvement".The fact that the
situation with forest and water resources can become
threatening, the report says. British meteorologists predict
crop capacity change and redistribution of agricultural land
from the southern and Eastern territories to the North of
the country, and also increase of irrigation needs. They
also allow the reduction of forest area in Ukraine and
increasing number of forest fires.Perhaps the only sphere
of life, on which global warming could have a positive
impact, was tourism. "As other areas such as the
Mediterranean coast, will become less attractive to
tourists for the risk of flooding with climate change, the
number of tourists in Ukraine will grow", - experts say.
7. Avoid climate change is possible through
the application of energy efficient
technologies, said coordinator of the
climate change program of the National
ecological centre Christina Rudnytska.
"The Ambassador of great Britain Leigh
Turner during the round table, which was
presented to the report, noted that Ukraine
should refuse, for example, subsidies to
the coal industry, which now account for
3% of the state budget, and to spend
these funds for modernization of
technologies, thereby reducing the amount
of greenhouse emissions ", - said Mrs.
Rudnitskaya
8. Earlier, a non-profit organization
climatologists world environment Fund
announced a report, according to which
climate change caused by anthropogenic
emissions of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere will lead to food shortages by
2020, that would condemn every fifth
person on Earth hungry existence.
