2. Vocab:
• Polarization is the blocking of light rays that
are not aligned in the proper direction
(parallel to the polarization slits. It’s like light
passing through the slits in a louvered panel.
• Polarized lenses block certain types of light,
and allow other types of light to pass through.
The gray filters I use to change the colors from
my projector from green to magenta are
polarized filters.
3. Agenda
• Key ideas 13-4 color and polarization.
• Color Additive, and subtractive
demonstration.
• Polarization demonstration, and explanation.
• SR P474 Q 1-4
• STP P482,483 Q 1-13 due tomorrow
• Test tomorrow after we correct the STP!
4. Key ideas 13-4
• Light of different colors can be produced by
adding light consisting of the primary additive
colors (Red, Green, Blue) (RGB)
• Pigments can be produced by combining
subtractive colors Yellow, Magenta, and Cyan
YMC aye.
• Light can be linearly polarized by transmission,
reflection, or scattering.
5. Color demonstration
• Show the primary colors using filters and
projectors.
• Demonstrate the interference with subtractive
colors or pigments.
6. Section review work
• SR P474 Q 1-4
• Test prep.
• STP P482,483 Q 1-13 due tomorrow
• Test tomorrow!!!
• Remember to keep your cell phones out of
sight and out of mind!
