2. WHAT IS A GRAPHICS
DESIGNER?
Definition – a graphics designer is a
professional within the graphic design
and graphic arts industry who
assembles together images or
motions graphics to create a piece of
design.
3. ESSENTIAL
COMPONENTS
Most graphic designers would require a large monitor for
their computer, with a high quality resolution. For this, it is
crucial for the capacity of the RAM(random access memory)
to be large.
The hard drive should also be of a high capacity for efficient
storage of permanent data. For example, a computer suitable
for a graphic designer may have a capacity of 1 tb of storage.
And have a speed of 7200 RPM (revolutions per minute). A
suitable RAM might be 8gb.
Processor speed is also an important component of the CPU,
this is how long it takes for both input and output information
to be processed. For instance the speed of the computer’s
processor which we chose for a graphic designer is a 2ghz
processor, and 2MB cache.
4. APPROXIMATE PRICE
TO UPGRADE
The desktop computer which we selected for a graphic
designer is an HP 110-352na, it’s price is £319.99, however a
monitor is also needed to display the information from the
PC.
The monitor I chose was an LG 23MP75 IPS LED Monitor,
with 1080p full HD display and a size of 23”. It also contains
built in speakers and takes HDMI and VGA input. The price is
only £149.99.
Total Cost: Approx £570
5. RANKED KEY
UPRGRADES
1. The motherboard is the most important component of
any computer because it determines what you can put in
your computer and even how great everything else works
together. Buying the wrong motherboard will limit the
ability of both the processor and the computer’s overall
performance, since it also affects the memory, HDD and
heat sink.
2. We ranked the CPU the second most important because,
the best experience depends on the specs of the actual
CPU. It makes things run smoother, open faster and
enhances the graphics quality. Quad core processors,
meaning 4 in 1 bits are the most efficient for multitasking.
6. RANKED KEY
UPGRADES
3. HDD was ranked no.3, obviously because it allows you to
primarily store permanent data, which is essential for every
user.
4. Memory, whether its RAM, ROM or virtual memory is
important because it increases the speed of a computer and
eliminated the need to swap programs in and out.
7. FUTURE PROOF
The life expectancy of the computer of a graphic designer,
would probably be quite a few years since the capacity of the
hard drive and memory is fairly large. If the computer is used
over a few years, it is unlikely there will be problems with the
software unless there is an update. However, you may need
to upgrade the hard drive or memory since graphic images or
data usually take up a lot of storage.
