Occupational Therapy is much beyond Autism and Cerebral palsy (autism).

OT is Healthcare profession working towards, prevention of disability & restoration of independent functional ability.
Otist work with people of any age to promote health, prevent Disability, and Develop or maintain abilities.
It all started with Dr. FILEEP pinel a French physician, and a philanthropist who first started use of occupations to treat his patients in a mental asylum. In late 1700’s. following his footsteps Dr. Adolf Meyer – a psychiatrist also noticed a significant holistic improvement in his patients in late 1800’s.

Dr. dunton – psychiatrist by profession | George Barton (who coined OT) – a paraplegic Architecht by profession | Elanor clarke slagle – a social worker | Thomas bessel kinder - vocational secretary at Canadian military | Susan cox jhonsan who was Arts and Craft teacher and Susan tracy a Nurse. On March 15 (in year)1917, formed National Society for promotion of Occupational Therapy.
Adding on to this WW1 and WW2 played a major role in promotion of the profession by helping reconstruct injured and disabled soldiers.
This year we celebrate 102 years of the Profession.
In India seed of Occupational Therapy was sowed by Mrs. Kamla V Nimbkar in the year 1950 at KEM Hospital, Bombay. The dimension of mental health was focused in therapy.
The Academics of the profession has seen an extensive changes in the past years.

An Occupational Therapist works in various settings ranging from schools to research institutions, from hospitals to hospice centres from vocational centres to industries to name a few.

At ESIC, presently across 16 states and 2 UT’s beneficiary can avail Occupational therapy services.
In Delhi only there are 4 Hospitals where beneficiaries can avail the services.
