a) A BCD Adder can be constructed from two 4-bit adders and a carry detector circuit. The carry detect circuit has 5 input lines. C1s1,s2,s3, and s4 which are the outputs of the first 4-bit adder. It has one output Cout which is HIGH (1) when the decimal value of c1s1,s2,s3, and s4 is greater than 9. I. Draw the truth table for the carry detect circuit [ 3 marks] II. Write the POS expression for the carry detect circuit from the truth table[2 marks] III. Draw the K-map for the truth table and determine the minimized SOP expression using the truth table you have generated in I. [5 marks].

  • 1. a) A BCD Adder can be constructed from two 4-bit adders and a carry detector circuit. The carry detect circuit has 5 input lines. C1s1,s2,s3, and s4 which are the outputs of the first 4-bit adder. It has one output Cout which is HIGH (1) when the decimal value of c1s1,s2,s3, and s4 is greater than 9. I. Draw the truth table for the carry detect circuit [ 3 marks] II. Write the POS expression for the carry detect circuit from the truth table[2 marks] III. Draw the K-map for the truth table and determine the minimized SOP expression using the truth table you have generated in I. [5 marks]
