1. TITLING RESEARCH 3:
ZOMBIELAND
The title is a big give
away for this film, and
tells you the genre and
what the film will be
featuring. straight away
from the advertising
poster there is a big
indication of the
destruction and terror
that is going to happen
within the film
2. The opening credits start of with
this image of an American flag,
straight away indicating to the
audience, were the film is set, and
that it has been made by an
American production company.
Almost straight away you are
thrown into contact with a
zombie eating another human.
This creates the first dose of
terror for the audience, and
gives them and insight into the
gruesome nature of this film.
3. These opening credits connotes
to the audience the destruction
of the earth due to this zombie
take over.
The creates discomfort and horror
for the audience, and the earth is a
very personal and close thing for
many people, as everyone shares it
as a home.
4. The opening titles are set out as a
guide book of how to survive
against the zombies. This creates a
sense of comedy and humour for
the audience within the opening
credits. This lightens the
atmosphere of a zombie horror,
and portrays a humorous side to
the film.
5. The opening credits being used as
a guide book on how to stay alive,
shows the death of innocent
people who aren't yet zombies,
who provide the examples for the
guidebook.
The use of the bright red blood, is
eye catching and disturbing towards
the audience. Red is a very dominant
colour throughout the film, as it is a
symbol of blood and danger , and
the film contains a lot of blood and
gore, due to the zombies eating
people.
6. The production company is in bold,
bright red writing which contrasts
with the brown black blood that
convers the zombies. The Red is
bright and stands out, to capture the
audiences attention against the
graphic scene of death, and murder.
Throughout the whole of the
film and the opening credits
blood is a very dominant
feature in the film. However
rather than having the
conventional red blood, a lot
of the blood featured in the
film is dark red or almost
black/ brown in colouring. This
makes it even more
disturbing, and it almost
makes the blood look diseased
and more dangerous and
terrifying than conventional
red blood.
7. Within all of these opening titles, as an audience we are clearly able to see the true horror
and terror that are captured on these peoples faces as they try and escape the zombies.
These emotions are then reflected onto the audience, as they feel sympathetic towards the
innocent members of the public trying to survive.
8. The use of camera angles in the
opening credits plays a vital role,
as they include the audience
within the film. Making the
audience feel on edge and build
up a sense of terror. This is
created by the way it looks as if
the zombies are running towards
the audience. Here we are
clearly able to see the man
smashing through a window to
escape the zombie, this is
captured in slow motion as we
see the shattering of the glass,
and the shattering of the letters.
The camera angles capturing it
from the other side makes the
audience feel as if the man in
smashing through the screen
and coming at them. This creates
anticipation for the audience, as
we never actually see is he out
runs the zombie.
9. Once again comedy is entwined
within this horror. Having a naked
strip dancer chasing a fat man with
money in his hand is very comical
and funny for the audience to
lighten their mood. Once again
with the credits being in slow
motion we are clearly able to see
the, pain, horror, and terror within
these peoples faces as they run for
their lives.
The zombie being covered in blood
is symbolic to show that she has
already murdered to be covered in
blood, which makes the audience
feel fearful for the survivors.
10. Once again, we are able to see the innocent people trying to out run the zombies.
However this is almost portraying dramatic irony as we are able to see the horror of the
zombies coming up behind the people, and knowing that there is no escape for them.
The writing of the credits is in bright red, which is symbolic as it conveys the danger and
death of the zombies, and the horror that the film will portray.
11. The comical zombie
being on fire and yet
still chasing a fireman,
is ironic and yet still
humours for the
audience.
12. The final of the opening
credits is a zombie
crashing through a car
windscreen . This is
capture in slow motion,
and positions the
audience as if they are
sitting in the car. This
creates tension for the
audience as almost
immediately they feel
involved within the film,
and feel afraid and
anxious when they come
into close contact with
the zombies.
