The facebook page is in IcelandicMake sure to check the library’s homepage for announcements.
The facebook account is an ongoing experiment at RU library and pertains, as of now, to the Icelandic student population. The library can suggest using Google translate for speakers of other languages.
Use scholar.google.com to search for scholarly resources. Choose your subject, set the date and include citations to be able to look further in “cited by”.Most important is the link Service@RU.is which allows you to search within RU electronic holdings of resources. Service@RU.is appears with otherwise closed articles and indicates that you can access the article via RU as an RU student or place an order of article with LIRU. Ordering articles is mainly intended for students working on their thesis.
An RU-window appears after you click Service@RU.is on scholar.google.com.At the top you find the article’s bibliographic information: title, author, journal, date of publishing etc. Click GO at the top where it indicates the article has been found. The article opens within the database. For more information or assistance contact the library library@ru.is and bokasafn@hr.is .
LIRU databases are databases of scholarly resources that the library subscribes to and provide you access to. Some databases are in the national consortia (subscription on a national scale) and can be accessed from anywhere within Iceland. Others are databases specific to LIRU (marked + or ~) Familiarize yourself with the databases early on in your studies and ask the library for assistance when needed.
80% of LIRU’s resources are electronic. 20% of its resources are therefore in print. For some databases, specifically bought in for RU you will need to login via the remote access when working off site. Once you choose your database you will be asked to login in and to add a proxy. Login and agree to add the proxy and you will have access. For more information please visit reykjavikuniversity.is/remoteaccess
