2. 6/13/11
Our recommendation:
Develop a campaign to reduce
alcohol advertising that targets
the NFO community.
Themes - community conversations:
• Need more and better prevention marketing
and messaging – in appropriate languages.
• Concern about targeting of the NFO
community with this type of advertising.
Action: Shared with NFO general plan steering
committee and Koshland fellows.
Our recommendation:
Raise public awareness among
parents, youth, and policy
makers of “alcopops” content,
availability and marketing.
Educate merchants.
Themes - community conversations:
• Shocked that these exist – and by % alcohol,
raised awareness.
• Concerned about teens being targeted
• Interested in merchant education.

3. 6/13/11
Our recommendation:
Improve safety and reduce alcohol
and drug use in local parks.
Themes - community conversations:
• Noted that it is accepted as “normal” that adults/
teens smoke and drink in parks.
• Think drinking and smoking in parks gives mixed
messages to children (related to health and play.)
Our recommendation:
Increase and promote campaigns
for parents and students to turn in
expired and unused prescription
and over the counter drugs.
Theme - community conversations:
Made people think about what is in their
medicine cabinets at home, raised awareness.
Action: The Photovoice work group distributed
drug-drop information at all table events.

4. 6/13/11
Our recommendation:
Increase opportunities for youth to
express themselves through art or
other activities, so that youth can
address their challenges in positive
and productive ways.
Themes - community conversations:
• Agree that youth friendly spaces and and
programming is really important.
• Would like more public spaces for youth
artwork and expression.
• Small can be mighty – grew/bonded/
developed sense of team
• Presentation? No problem!
• Alcopops? Had no idea
• Once you look – you start to notice more
and more
• The information we have to share really
does help people
What did we learn?
