2. President’s Volunteer Service Award Activities
Through the Archer High School Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America
(Chapter 16543) I have participated in multiple community service projects and activities in
order to give back and complete the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Our chapter has taken
our community service very seriously. We have painted pumpkins for the local nursing home,
written thank you notes to soldiers overseas, and held a book drive for a new teacher to stock her
classroom library. While all of these activities were different, they all gave back in some way.
Because of my participation in these activities I have gained many things. Leadership
skills, knowledge, and a passion for giving back have all increased within me due to my
involvement this year. The pumpkin painting activity is something we participate in every year
but it never loses its appeal. While we didn’t spend a lot of time on these tiny pumpkins, I know
they brought a smile to the inhabitants of the assisted living home we delivered them too. The
book drive we held helped me understand that if everyone invests something small we can have a
big return. All we had to do was promise a free chicken biscuit for two or three children’s books
and our entire chapter turned out. Her library will be stocked and that is a great feeling. I have
bettered myself through these experiences and truly learned how small actions can better others
by volunteering.
