2. DAYLIGHTING
+ The illumination of
buildings by natural light
is known as daylighting.
+ “Daylighting is achieved
by using properly
designed windows and
skylights (openings)”

3. + ORIENTATION
The building is
staggered
45 degrees on site to
allow a perfect north
-south orientation for all
windows.

+On the east-west façade
small slits of glass blocks
are provided which allow
diffused light within the
spaces.

openings are
provided with
sunshades which
cut the summer sun
and let the winter
sun in.

6. Light Shelves
+All sunshades have white
ceramic tiles on the top of
the sunshades acting as
light shelves. They let in
diffused light in the space.
+Therefore, the windows
are divided into two parts-
one for viewing and the
other for lighting due to light
shelves.

9. Artificial lighting
Artificial lighting for a space can be done in many ways. One of which is
‘Luminaires’.
Luminaires
A lighting unit consisting of one or more electric lamps with all of the necessary
parts and wiring for positioning and protecting the lamps, connecting the lamps to
a [power supply and distributing the light.
It is also called lighting fixture.
