This document discusses the impact of social media on individual privacy and peace of mind. It notes that while social media allows for connection, it can also be addictive and negatively impact users' health, disconnect them from reality, and threaten their privacy and security. The document advocates for peace education and a transdisciplinary approach to mentor social media users and protect them from cybercrimes. It provides suggestions for users, governments, and educators to help address these issues and promote well-being.

⢠âBeing Transdisciplinaryâ is the keystone of facing the challenges of the 21st
Century. It is to face the challenges of the present world in all their
complexity
⢠The methodology of transdisciplinarity is founded on three postulates:
⢠The ontological postulate: There are, in Nature and in our knowledge of Nature,
different levels of Reality of the Object and different levels of Reality of the Subject.
⢠The logical postulate: The passage from one level of Reality to another is insured by
the logic of the included middle.
⢠The epistemological postulate: The structure of the totality of levels of Reality is a
complex structure: every level is what it is because all the levels exist at the same
time. â (Basarab Nicolescu, Manifesto of Transdisciplinarity, op. cit.)

Good afternoon all of you. I am Dr. Sangeeta Dhamdhere presenting a paper âSocial MediaâŚ.â co authored by Dr. Frederic Andres, Professor, National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo and Dr. Florent Pasquier, Professor, Sorbonne Universite Lettres, France.
I will discussing the background of choosing the topic, Social media issues and challenges, Suggestions and Future actions.
Lets begin with the introduction. Social media is computer based technology which provides its users a quick communication platform to shareâŚ.. Social media are of four types social networking I,e. Facebook, Linkedin, Google+. Microbloging i.e. Twitter, Tumblr, Photo sharing i.e Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest and Video sharing i.e. Youtube, Facebook live, Perscope, Vimeo. There are hundreds of social communication platforms are available.
Due to low cost mobile data and easy wifi access the popularity of social media has grown rapidly in last few years and its users have reached upto 3.196 billions in 2018 and every year this figure is increasing with 13percent. In India in last four years average use of internet has increased from 805mb to 9.6GB and more than 43.2 crores 4G users and using more than 10GB data per month. This graph here shos the social media users in Dec 2018 Facebook users were 2271 millions, Youtube users are 1900 millions, whatsapp 1500millions, FB messenger 1300 Millions Instagram 803 millions and Line, Pinterest, Snap Chat, Viber users are below 300Millions.
If we see what happens in an internet minutes you will see every single minute 973000 people login to FB, 38 Million Messages are shared on whatsapp, 174000 scrollings on Instagram, 2.4 Millionos snaps are created on Snap Chat, 25000 Million GIFs sent via messengers 18 Millions text messages are shared on Line and 4.3 Millions videos are being watched on YouTube. From these statistics we can understand how people are addicted to social media and their mobiles.
Every coin has two sides. Similarly Social Media too have two sides Bright side and Dark Side. Lets see its Bright side. Social media is diffusing boundries like âŚ
From these pictures we can see addiction on social media and preference to communicate online than face to face. At restaurant or groups too people prefer chatting on mobile.
If we see the Dark side of social media excessive use of social media is impacting on individual health, well being, physical activity and most imp peace of mind. People are disconnecting from the real world and indulging themselves in virtual world. These social media are attaching individual privacy and security which lead to social media crimes
Every year many cyber crimes are reported related to social media. There are cases of Manipulation, Blocking, Tagging, Shopping offers, Profile hacking, etc. Not only common people but celebrities are also victim of such offenses and crimes.
If we see how it affecting peace of mind then there are many scams and fraud schemes using fake profiles. Fake friend requests, non-responsive behaviour of users, blocking friends, personalized and negatice comments âŚ.are creating distresses in people which turns into inefficiency at work, lack of concentration, fear, worry, etc.
In recent study carried out at Simmons University, USA it was found that the response rate of people on social media is /////
67% people feel bad towares non-responseâŚ.
According to Maslowâs Hierarchy of Human needs each one has Psychological need, safety need, love and belongings needs, esteem and self actualization needs. From this hierarchy the social media is affecting people Psychologically, no safe environment, blocking, hacking, non responsive behaviour etc are causing other needs of people.
Prof. Pasquier co-author of this paper has proposes this temple structure of fair balance eto nourish all human aspects and suggested need of peace education among the social media users
Problems donât occur with technologies themselves. So what is the cause of these social media crimes and distresses? It is the way that human deals with these technologies. So we need to educate and train the minds of human.
