Research is simply a systematic and refined technique of thinking,
employing specialized tool, instruments and procedures in order to obtain a
more adequate solution of a problem. (Crowford, C.C., 1958)

R – Rational way of thinking
E – Exhaustive treatment (पररश्रम के साथ कायि करना)
S – Search for solution
E – Exactness (शुद्धता या ननजश् तता)
A – Analysis view (विश्लेषणात्मक दृजष्टकोण)
R – Relationship of facts
C – Critical observation (आलो नात्मक ननरीक्षण)
H – Honesty in work
Objective of
Research
 To solve the a problem with scientifically
 To generate a new theory/knowledge
 To achieve a new insight towards a certain topic
 To verify and test important facts
 To analyze an event, process or phenomenon
 To identify the cause and effect relationship
 To find solutions to scientific, non-scientific and social problems
 To determine the frequency at which something occurs
What makes people do
Research?
Get a research degree
To solve problems
 To get intellectual joy of doing creative work
To do something for society
For innovation
For attention and fam
To help in the development of nation
Steps of Research
Problem/Area identification
Review of literature
Problem formulation
Deciding Research quotations/Objectives
Formulation of hypotheses
Collection of Data
Analyzing of Data and Interpretation of
data
Conclusion
Writing the research report
Features of Good
Research Study
A research must be structured with specified
steps in a specified sequence, according to well
defined set of rules.
A research must be guided by logic reasoning
and the logical process of induction and deduction.
Other people must be able to verify and
replicate the original research report.
The purpose of the research should be clearly
defined and common concepts should be used.
Contd..
 The Design should be planned to yield results that are
objective.
 The researcher must report with complete frankness and
flaws.
 The analysis of data must be adequate and the
method of analysis should be appropriate.
 Conclusions must be confined to those justified by the
data.
Research outcome should be beneficial for society or nation
Research Method Vs Research
Methodology
Research methods are all those methods and techniques that are
used in a research. It refers to the methods the researchers use in
performing research operations. It can be put under three groups –
1 . Methods concerned with the collection of data
2 . Statistical techniques used for establishing relationship between
variables.
3 . Methods to evaluate the accuracy of the results.
Research Methodology is a way to systematically solve a research
problem. It is a science of studying how research is done scientifically.
Essentially it is the procedure by which the researchers go about their work
of describing, evaluating and predicting phenomenon. It aims to give
the work plan of research. It provides training in choosing methods
materials, scientific tools and techniques relevant for the solution of the
problem.
Way s of Research
Desk research (Library research) refers to
gathering information that others have generated
(Secondary Data)
Primary research (Field Research) refers to
generating information through data collection,
analysis, and reporting findings
(Primary Data)
Contd…
Type of Research
Type-1 (According to Purpose)
Fundamental Research
Applied Research
Action Research
Type-2 (According to Question Involved)
Historical Research
Descriptive Research
Experimental Research
