reproduction in which reproduction in which
the cell divides in two the number of
producing a replica, chromosomes are
with an equal number reduced by half
of chromosomes in through the separation
haploid cell. of homologous
chromosomes in a
diploid cell.
5. Male and female parts of flower
•Male parts •Female parts
-Anther {makes the -Stigma {sticky thing
pollen with the sperm that gets the pollen}
inside} -Ovule {holds the egg}
-Filament {holds up the -Ovary {protects the egg}
anther} -Pollen Tube {where the
-Stamen {Name for the sperm travels down into
anther and filament the ovary}
together}
16. Insects and reproduction
• Insect species make up more than two-thirds of allextant animal
species, and most insect species use sex for reproduction, though some
species are facultatively parthenogenetic. Many species havesexual
dimorphism, while in others the sexes look nearly identical. Typically
they have two sexes with males producing spermatozoa and females
ova. The ova develop into eggs that have a covering called thechorion
, which forms before internal fertilization. Insects have very diverse
mating and reproductive strategies most often resulting in the male
depositingspermatophore within the female, which stores the sperm
until she is ready for egg fertilization. After fertilization, and the
formation of a zygote, and varying degrees of development; the eggs
are deposited outside the female in many species, or in some, they
develop further within the female and live born offspring are
produced.
