 A social group is a group of people who all have the same
thing in common and tend to socialise together because of
these commonalities. They interact with each other
because they have something in common.

Detective Crawford
We have likened Detective Crawford in our film to Brad Pitt who plays
Detective David Mills in the film Se7en which is a thriller made in 1995. Our
film represents the social group of detectives because Detective Crawford
is similarly dressed to David Mills, in office clothes. Also, we have made
Detective Crawford replicate many actions that David Mills performs in the
film. We have tried to liken Detective Crawford to David Mills because in
Se7en, Mills has a girlfriend that gets killed like what happens to Detective
Crawford, although in our film this happens in the opening and not the end
of the film. Also, Detective Crawford his similar to Detective Mills because
in Se7en, Detective Mills avenges his girlfriend by killing the murderer
which is similar to our film as Detective Crawford goes after Roman, his
girlfriends killer. Both detectives show love to their partners by going after
their murderers and attempting to kill them. Our film represents the social
group of detectives because Detective Crawford is a target for criminals
because of his line of work so as a result of this his girlfriend is murdered
by a serial killer and he tracks the killer down using his detective skills. A
characteristic of a detective is to remain calm throughout their various
jobs but in both films, the detectives’ emotions understandably take over
and they seek revenge by killing the murderer of their girlfriend/wife. Also,
a characteristic of the detective in Se7en was that he always kept a
straight face when dealing with his line of work which we tried to replicate
with Detective Crawford.

For the character of Jane Crawford, we have also likened her to a
character from the film Se7en. Tracy Mills is similar to Jane Crawford
because they are both the partner of a detective and are
subsequently murdered by a serial killer. Therefore the social group
that Jane represents in our film is murder victims. They are also
similar because they both get murdered because of the occupation
of their partner, a detective. We dressed Jane in similar clothes to
Tracy and in both films, the murder victims are obvious targets for a
murderer and very vulnerable. Both victims are murdered
intentionally to hurt their boyfriend/husband emotionally and aren’t
just random murders by a serial killer, they happen for a reason
although these reasons differ in both films. A characteristic of a
murder victim in thriller films is for them to attempt to fight back
against the killer which can add suspense to the scene as the
audience don’t know if the victim will survive or not. We have used
this characteristic in our film by making Jane attempt to hit her
murderer with her work folder. Also, in most thriller films that we
have researched, the murder victim is a woman and this was also the
preference of our questionnaire results. The murder victim is a
woman because they are more vulnerable and can be made to look in
a position of weakness easier by using various camera angles.
Jane Crawford

We have likened our murderer, Roman Mortem who represents
the social group of murderers, to John Travolta when he is Castor
Troy in the film Face Off which is a thriller film made in 1997.
These characters are similar because they are both serial killers
and aim to kill the loved ones of people that they hate. Both
characters stop at nothing to get what they want and don’t care
who they kill to get it. Travolta is always dressed in smart clothes
so we made sure that Roman is wearing smart clothes
throughout the opening of our film. A characteristic of
murderers in thriller films is that they show no mercy or
hesitation when pulling the trigger of a gun when they kill the
victim. This is why our murderer shows no emotion when he is
about to murder Jane, to show that he is ruthless and evil. Also,
another characteristic of murderer's is that they almost savour
the whole experience of killing someone so in our film, Roman
does not kill Jane straight away and the murder scene lasts
longer. Also, the murderer’s prime objective is to kill the ‘hero’
and killing the hero’s loved one is only part of their overall plan
and is only to make the hero weaker so that they are more
vulnerable because they are emotionally hurt by their loved ones
death.
Roman Mortem

The detective’s assistant in our film is similar
to the assistant in the TV series True
Detective made in 2014. This represents the
social group of detectives assistants
because they are nearly always at the side of
the detective as shown in the images. A
characteristic of an assistant is to look
professional so we dressed our assistant in
smart clothing. Also, a characteristic of
detective’s assistants is to bring anything of
importance to the detective straight away
so in our film it looks as if the assistant is in a
rush to deliver the murder case file to the
detective and tells him that the situation is
urgent.
