1. Casting & Auditions
To play the role of main character (boy):
ď‚· Waheed Dada
Waheed, as I felt, seemed to fit quite well with what I was hoping the character to
be like within my A2 music video. Not only did I feel he had the necessary body
structure for the part he also had a sense of confidence through the way he walks
and through body movement. I felt Waheed would be a very strong character playing a
very good role.
Sadly though even with all these very strong attributes that he possesses I still
felt Waheed wasn’t right for the part. I say this because while having some
practise shots he wasn’t necessarily too eager to act or lip sing with various
emotions (mainly sad and upset were the emotions). Not only that but he wasn’t as
serious with this as I anticipated him to be. So at the end of the day I decided to
not use him due to the lack of seriousness towards my work.
ď‚· Riyan Sporre
I felt Riyan was a very intellectual person when it came to picking out and giving
me ideas on what I could shoot, how it should be done and where. It’s because of
this that I highly respect him on certain levels. But it’s because of this that I
didn’t feel he would be the best of person to use to play the role as one of the
main characters.
He seem to dominate and would want to sort of control particular scenes in his
favour, even though some of them were generally good ideas to take in and consider.
ď‚· Alex Onyejuba (Myself)
I’ve always wanted to be within my own film production but I thought it wouldn’t
be the best idea to do so. It’s not because I feel I’ve not got the best acting
skills or anything else it’s solely because if I were to act who would be behind
the camera. I feel if I were to act the person taking control of the camera
wouldn’t be able to capture scenes the way I envisioned it to be. That’s why I
have very strong doubts whether or not I should really act within my own music
video.
To play the role of main character (girl):
ď‚· Emily Higgins
I felt Emily was a very exceptional actor in terms of she knew exactly how and when
to be serious even though majority of the time she was quite jolly even for the
2. theme of the music video. Though this song was made by a Black artist and is very
expected for there to be mainly Black people to be involved if there were to be an
official music video. But I do consider whether breaking such convention and using
my dear friend Emily to assist me in doing so.
ď‚· Olivia Agba
Though to take this particular character role is quite simple to play off I felt
she had the necessary qualities that I needed. To start off with she had that kind
of drop dead serious look that within some particular scenes would come in handy. I
feel she had slightly stronger facial and body features compared to others that I
thought were quite on point. The only reason I would say about using Olivia is that
not only might she complain about every little detail she might also want to change
things to make it suitable for her rather than follow my idea.
