Samantha Ives’ GMHS CARP “Reteaching and Recovery” Results

     1) If you earn a low grade on a test/assessment, which is your most common reaction?

                                        a) do nothing and move on

                               b) work harder on later tasks and assessments

                                       c) study to review the material

                              d) other: _________________ (please write in)

From the pre- and post-test results, one can see that after participating in recovery, after
receiving a low grade on an assessment:

More students wanted to work harder on future assessments, less would do nothing and
move on or study to review the material.

   2) How do you think teachers can best help students who earn low test/assessment grades?

                                          a) do nothing and move on

                                   b) reteach the material to the entire class

                         c) give students independent/small group review tasks in class

                      d) give students review tasks to complete independently at home

From the pre- and post-test results, one can see that after participating in recovery, students think
that teachers can best help students who earn low assessment grades:

Less by assigning independent recovery tasks for the students to do at home, more by

doing nothing and moving on.

    3) If I don't understand something the first time I am tested on the topic, my reaction is...

                                       a) I can't learn the material

                                   b) I can do better on a recovery task

                             c) I want to focus on improving on the next task

students do not understand a topic the first time:

More want to focus on improving the next task, and less think they cannot learn the

                                       a) helpful because it helps me learn

                          b) helpful because it prepares me for cumulative assessments

                                 c) not helpful because it does not help me learn
