3. Genre and audience
We chose the genre of action thriller as we think there are great storyline opportunities. We think
we can produce this better than any other genre as we have the right resources and innovative ideas
to produce this kind of film.
Our film will have the key features of both genres such as the character being put in life threatening
situations etc. Jeopardy and violent confrontations are standard plot elements for this genre. The
thriller genre is characterized by fast paced, frequent action and resourceful heroes who must
thwart the villains plans of more powerful and better equipped villians. In our film we have a group
of teenagers who fight against the more powerful and better equipped government.
To keep the audience entertained we aim to heighten the tension in the film by using pyrotechnics, a
good storyline and a bit of a twist. We want to keep the audience on edge. We aim to keep the
characters relatable by keeping the characters the same age as our audience so the audience are
kept entertained.
We have labelled our film as action thriller as there is a typical hero vs. villians theme with weapons,
the thriller components include mystery, plot twists and suspense. There is a definite demand for
action thriller films.
The iconography for our film includes things such as guns, chase scenes, blood, there is a lot of
crossover with Horror films for thrillers.
The protagonist in our film is going to be the teenage girl who features in the first 2 minutes of our
film. There are also going to be other characters she meets, who try to overcome the power of the
government, however they are not going to be introduced within the first 2 minutes of our film.
In short, the narrative for our film is good overcoming evil, we will explain this further when we get
to the Narrative and setting slide.
The setting for our film is a city; it is quite suburban which is a key repertoire for the thriller genre.
5. Narrative & setting
Our log line is girl wakes up to find she is truly alone. This line describes, in short, the first 2 minutes
of the opening of our film. Our film will have a growing sense of threat and a race against time to
keep our audience involved and on the edge of the seat. The film will start with a disequilibrium as
the audience find out in the first minute that people are disappearing.
Our narrative copies the Vladimir Propp theory as the characters are going to have the components
of donor, helper, hero etc. Each character will have more than one character type and the roles
switch between situations in the film.
The structure of our film is the Propp character theory and the Syd Field structure. The hero is
recognised at the start, we follow the main characterâs journey in the first 5 minutes of our film to
establish that she is the hero. In the middle of the film the audience realise that the villain is the
government who takes all of the people away. The other teenagers in the same situation who she
meets are plotting against the government.
The act one is addressing that the characters are all alone and they form a group.
Plot point 1 is the characters finding out that the government is involved is the disappearance of
society
7. The Second act is the group in conflict with the government such as infiltrating the buildings,
planting bombs and planning a way to overthrow the government but fail, things are not progressing
Plot point 2 is the group planning their last attack on the government; things are looking up as they
find a counter weapon which could defeat the government
The third act is defeating the government and bringing back civilization.
The false hero is one of the teenagers who is working for the government and getting inside
information which they feed back to the government. The false hero gets shot and the group carry
on planning against the government and overthrow the villain.
The first scene the audience sees is the main character at a party at her friendâs house. The settings
we see in the first 2 minutes of the film will be the protagonistâs house, the living room, her
bedroom, the streets in her town and an abandoned airfield. However the majority of setting of our
film is going to be in an empty London city so there will be lots of abandoned vehicles, houses in the
suburbs.
10. Characters
Our main character is the typical lead character for a thriller film, she has no experience with danger
and is an ordinary citizen specifically chosen to carry out a task.
The protagonist in our film is called Ava Emery, she is a 16 year old girl who lives with her mum in a
flat, she has many friends and is seen coming back from a party to show she gets on well with nearly
everyone. She is clever, brave and has a strong personality.
Although the audience do not see the other 3 characters within the first 2 minutes they all have key
roles within the film. All of the characters are linked by a mark on their risk which signifies that they
a specifically chosen and left behind by the government.
The role of the Government in our films is a demonstration of power and authority over the
individuals in the country. The main aim of the government is to create and genetically pure race.
The main characters that survive the first 30 minutes of the film were part of a secret experiment
when they were younger, in which they were identified as genetically pure and given matching
marks.
12. Budget
Action thrillers often contains lots of violence, guns, elaborate sets where
the action takes place and explosions. Similarly to James Bond films and
The Transporter, we will need a large budget to produce this film, around
ÂŁ50 million. We aim to keep the characters relatable by keeping the
characters the same age as our audience

16. Our 2 minute opening follows the story of Ava going to the
party and returning to her apartment with her mum, she then
wakes up the next morning and finds out everyone has
disappeared. She walks past a car and hears someone
communicating through the radio. She then starts walking
towards the meeting point and the start of the film finishes.
