- 6. Let’s look at some industry statistics
Most General insurance organisations are testing the SaaS waters with non-core or non-revenue producing
applications
Only 25% of those surveyed are using SaaS for a vertical specific application relating to core insurance
business functions, e.g. policy administration, claims management and processing, billing and payments, rating
and underwriting
Common barriers to deployment of cloud services for core insurance business systems are:
• Extensive customisations to the core applications which makes the deployment effort and TCO much
expensive
• Regulatory requirements around data
Despite challenges, many general insurers are displaying interest to deploy cloud services for an insurance
core function-specific application in near to medium term.

- 9. What have we heard from you?
Cloud is good
Yes, it is
cheaper
It is scalable
It is good for
my non-core
systems
BUT
How about data security?
Is the regulator ok with it?
How reliable is it?
Do I have control over my environment?
How easy is it to change provider both for application and hosting?

- 10. Our view to your concerns
Data Security
Entire environment is PCIDSS compliant
Data security is integral to
AWS’ core business
Regulatory Approval
APRA approval would
depend on the solution
architecture
Reliability
Reliability is based on architected solution. It is entirely feasible to architect a
solution to 99.999%
Do I have control over my environment?
• Client has absolute control over their own environment
Is it suitable for core systems?
• A number of large companies already run large/all parts of their business on AWS
