 Road Traffic Act (1988).
 Health & Safety at Work Act (1974).
The Equality Act (2010)
 A single Act which replaces
previous Anti-discrimination
Laws.
 Covers: Age, disability, maternity,
gender reassignment, maternity,
marriage & civil partnership,
religion, sex & sexual
orientation.
 It bans the unfair treatment of
people at work & wider society.
 The Act insures managers
or owners of public
vehicles comply with
no-smoking regulations.
 At least one No-Smoking
sign or symbol is displayed
clearly in a prominent part
of their vehicle.

 To co-operate with their employer
as far as necessary to ensure

  • 3. • To understand the legal framework. • To understand Health & Safety in the workplace. • To understand own responsibilities & that of the employer. • To know how to promote good practice. • To know how to demonstrate a positive attitude towards Health & Safety. Aims & Objectives
  • 4. Regulatory Framework  Equality Act (2010).  Smoke-Free Regulations (2007).  Safeguarding Groups Act (2006).  Seat Belt Regulations (1993 & 2006).  Control of Substances Hazardous to Health ‘COSHH’ (2002).  Road Traffic Act (1988).  Health & Safety at Work Act (1974).
  • 5. The Equality Act (2010)  A single Act which replaces previous Anti-discrimination Laws.  Covers: Age, disability, maternity, gender reassignment, maternity, marriage & civil partnership, religion, sex & sexual orientation.  It bans the unfair treatment of people at work & wider society.
  • 6.  The Act insures managers or owners of public vehicles comply with no-smoking regulations.  At least one No-Smoking sign or symbol is displayed clearly in a prominent part of their vehicle. Smoke Free Regulations (2007)
  • 7. Safeguarding Groups Act (2006)  The protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults.  Independent Safeguarding Authority.  All people working with Children & Vulnerable Adults register & undergo an advanced vetting process.
  • 8. Seat Belt Regulations (1993 & 2006)  Part of the Road Traffic Act.  A child under 3 years may travel unrestrained in rear of a Taxi.  3-14 years in the rear must wear an adult seat belt.  12+, if sat in front, must wear a seatbelt.
  • 9. COSHH: Control of Substances Hazardous to Health  Any substance that is hazardous to health  Any substance that is toxic corrosive or irritant  Cleaning Materials  Acids  Disinfectants  Bleaches  Blood  Fumes
  • 10. Road Traffic Act (1988)  Covers all legislation for road users.  Found abbreviated in the Highway Code.
  • 11. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 EMPLOYERS RESPONSIBILITIES  Ensure the Health, Safety & Welfare of all employees.  Provide training, supervision & instruction.  Provide safe systems of work.
  • 12. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 EMPLOYEES RESPONSIBILITIES  To be responsible for their own health and safety AND that of others who may be affected by their acts or failure to act.  To co-operate with their employer as far as necessary to ensure compliance of his/her duties under HASAWA.
  • 13. You have a: “DUTY OF CARE” To ensure no unreasonable loss or harm to Yourself, Passengers & Road Users.
  • 14. Manual Handling Regulations (1992) &Moving & Handling Feet: Flat & Apart: One foot pointing in the direction of the move. Knees: Bent-Flexible-Relaxed Back: Do not stoop! Waist: Never twist while moving & handling
  • 15. Moving & Handling DO NOT TAKE RISKS.  Know your own strength & ability.  Make room to move.  Keep the load close to your body.  Do not move loads over long distances.
  • 16. RISK ASSESSMENTS  What is a Hazard?  What is Risk?  What is a Risk Assessment?
  • 17. Accident Reporting Why report an accident? Where to report an accident? Who to report an accident to? The different types of accident?
  • 18. Conclusion Now you should be able to: Recognise responsibilities under Health & Safety Laws to yourself, passengers & others. Identify a HAZARD and RISK within your area of work. Make a simple RISK ASSESSMENT.
