Outstanding Marking
and Feedback
14 April 2015
It is not yet an outstanding school
because…
Some inconsistencies remain in the marking and
assessment of students’ work, especially in
relation to the correcting of inaccurate spelling
and punctuation.
There are inconsistencies across subjects in
promoting the students’ skills in reading and
writing, especially in writing in an extended
form and for different audiences.
What does the school need to do to
improve further?
Raise achievement further so that by the end of the
current academic year learning is at least good in all
lessons by ensuring that:
the good and outstanding marking and assessment
practice seen in many lessons is spread to all,
especially when correcting students’ inaccuracies in
spelling and punctuation
Students are consistently offered opportunities to
develop their skills in reading and writing and
opportunities to write at length and for different
audiences are fully developed across all subjects.

• Given the changes to the curriculum / Controlled Assessments / End
of Year exams is the Faculty Marking policy still appropriate?
• Are all members of the Faculty following the policy?
• How can this be evidenced?
• How are inconsistencies being addressed in the faculty?
• Are Closing the Gap tasks being used well and with regularity?
• Are pupils engaging with and responding to feedback given?
• How are/can you promote CTG further within your faculty?
• Are there identified pieces of work for each year group from which
staff are able to give the ‘current grade’ on pupil reports?
• Are the assessment pieces at the right time in the term to ensure
‘current grade’ is possible?
