How to Learn Piano by PC
1.
2.
3. Obtain a keyboard with MIDI
capability to learn on. Keyboards
come with a large variety of options,
from key size to the number of keys
you can hold down simultaneously.
When choosing a keyboard, get one
that's as realistic as possible when
compared with an actual piano. Get
a keyboard with full-sized keys; a 49-
key keyboard is good for beginning
play, but for more advanced learning
61-keys would be more appropriate.
Obtaining a touch-sensitive
keyboard will also aid you in the
learning process, as a way to
develop a natural playing style
transferrable to an actual piano.
4. Connect the keyboard to your
PC using a MIDI (Musical
Instrument Digital Interface)
cable. The MIDI connects
from the keyboard to the USB
port on the PC and allows an
exchange of data between
your keyboard and computer.
Everything from the chosen
instrument sound on your
keyboard to the duration and
firmness in which you press a
key on the keyboard converts
to data and transfers along
the MIDI cable where the PC
interprets the data using a
software tutorial program.
5. Purchase and install a software
tutor for your keyboard onto the
PC. Choose a software package
that's concurrent with your
playing level and your musical
interests. Software packages are
available which will teach you
piano from the first note played,
continuing to advanced lessons
covering sight-reading, music
theory and various musical
genres. Follow the installation
instructions provided by the
software manufacturer. The
installation process should
attune your connected keyboard
with the application, making it
available to use during the
learning process.
6. Start the
software tutor,
and follow
along with the
software
instructions to
learn to play the
piano on your
PC. Keyboard
lessons are
easily
transferable to a
full-sized piano,
and cover most
aspects of
piano playing.
