3. Survivors
A Cockroach does not die when it loses its
head. It can live for a week without its head!
Cockroaches can live for a week without water
and a month without food.
And there not fussy eaters. They’ll eat just
about anything!
4. Ultimate Escape
Artists
A Cockroach can run up to 5 km an hour. Just
imagine a Cockroach running along beside
you!
It can squeeze through a gap the thickness of a
ten cent piece.
Cockroaches brains are spread right along one
side of its body.
5. That’s Stinky
There are around four thousand
different types of cockroach in the
world.
NZ has a native one, The Kekerengu is
nicknamed “The Stink Roach”. This is one
of the smelliest!
There are so many different types of
cockroaches in the world from every
country.
6. Night Workers
All Cockroaches are nocturnal, so they sleep
in the day but are awake at night.
They sense things with their antennae and
their little hairs on the back of their legs.
If you try to sneak up on a cockroach the
little hairs will feel the movement of the air.
7. Before the Dinosaurs
• Entomologists (the people who study
insects) think that cockroaches were
scuttling around the earth more than
350 million years ago.
• That’s about 180 million years before
the Dinosaurs!
• Some people think cockroaches are
good at keeping their species alive!!!
