This document provides an overview of the Internet of Things (IoT). It discusses the history and development of IoT from 1997 to present day. Key points covered include the extraordinary benefits of IoT such as status updates, diagnostics, upgrades, control/automation, and location mapping. The document also addresses security and privacy challenges with collecting and sharing personal data through connected devices. Example applications of IoT highlighted are in manufacturing, infrastructure, transportation, healthcare, and media/advertising. The future of IoT is predicted to focus on enterprise, home, and government sectors, with enterprise being the largest at an estimated 9.1 billion devices by 2019.
3. History
1997, “The Internet of Things” is the seventh in the series of ITU
Internet Reports originally launched in 1997 under the title “Challenges
to the Network”.
1999, Auto-ID Center founded in MIT – Kevin Ashton
2003, EPC Global founded in MIT
2005, Four important technologies of the internet of things was proposed
in WSIS conference.
2008, First international conference of internet of things: The IOT 2008
was held at Zurich.

5. What Is the Internet of Things?
• Internet of things, we commonly use this term as IoT. It’s about
connecting devices over the internet, letting them talk to us,
applications, an each other.
• The concept of the Internet of Things is now being influenced
strongly by developments in computing and network ubiquity and
developments in the next generation Internet - and considered at
all levels including United Nations

8. Is it safe ?
• All these devices and systems collect lot of personal data about
people and its shared with other devices and held in databases by
companies.
• But the IoT is not main target of hackers. Because there is not
enough people using this thing. So it is unprofitable for them in
early stages

9. The challenge of IoT
• Technological Standardization in most areas are still remain
fragmented.
• Managing and fostering rapid innovation is a challenge for
governments
• Privacy and security
• Absence of governance
• Vulnerability to internet attack

16. Future of IOT
There are three core sectors of the IoT :
▫ •enterprise,
▫ •home, and
▫ •government,
with the Enterprise Internet of Things (EIoT) being the largest
of the three. By 2019, the EIoT sector is estimated to account
for nearly 40% or 9.1 billion devices
