Greenhous gases selective absorb long-wavelength light. Why is this important in the context of climate? ( in short Answer)
Solution
Molecules of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) or other greenhouse gases absorb energy from infrared (IR) radiation or long wavelength light. This is because energy from the photon of infrared causes the CO 2 and other greenhouse gases to vibrate such as nitrous oxide etc. Now, this phenomenon is very important from the environment point of view as if these gases do not absorb light then the temperature of earth cannot be maintained as all radiation will be completely radiated back into space and our earth will become a frozen giant so sustainability of lives would be impossible.
