This document outlines an industrial design course focused on semantics and conveying intended meanings through product design. The course teaches students to identify the emotional and experiential messages they want designs to communicate and translate these into formal design attributes. Sample activities include designing containers that represent traditional Mexican drinks, redesigning a neutral product to denote masculine or feminine qualities, and modifying a product to signify a young or old target user. The goal is to demonstrate how shapes and forms can be used to semantically represent different concepts, identities and experiences.
