Presentation by Jackie Graham and Garry Cameron from the the College Development Network on open repositories at the Jisc RSC Scotland Open Education event on 26th November 2013
2. Why?
• New regional sector
• Funding on a regional basis – regional
outcome agreements
• The time is right for colleges to open up their
educational content
• Curriculum alignment
• Quality and efficiency
3. The Good...
• Awareness of the benefits of open sharing
• Colleges want and need high quality resources
for repurposing, reworking and reformatting
with copyright clearance having been granted
• College Development Network resources
developed through project activity are
published under open licences
4. The Good...
• Existing resources are being updated
and relicensed under open licences as
appropriate
• Strong partnership approach
• Focus now on collection creation
• Open Scotland summit
5. The Not So Good...
• Reaching senior managers who have the
vision to publish under open licence
• Support that facilitates OER
• Using Re:Source to share content
• It is great to start small with content
creation
• Winning hearts and minds
6. The Not at All Good...
• Structural, organisational and attitudinal
barriers for adoption of OER
• Lack of recognition for college staff who
may consider developing and publishing
OER
• Lack of a planned, managed, supported
and encouraged process
7. However...
• Re:Source has the potential to be a
massive success story in the new
regional structure
• We know what needs to happen to
continue the discussions started at the
Open Scotland summit
• We are starting small!
8. Your suggestions to help...
• What more can we do to promote OER
in the sector?
