1. Beatles. Ultra rare
UK stereo first pressing
first cover With the Beatles
album signed in the upper
white area in blue ballpoint,
“RingoStarr,”“GeorgeHar-
rison,” “Paul McCartney,”
and “John Lennon.”The
signatures were acquired
at the Liverpool Empire on
December 7, 1963, during
a backstage meeting with
a male fan after he was a
guest of the group during
the day and attended their
performance on Juke Box
Jury and then the concert
arranged by the fan club. In
fine condition, with a bit of
light irregular ink adhesion
to end of Starr’s signature
andbeginningofHarrison’s,
a light album impression to
front cover and a few minor
edgecreases.Therecordis
included. Accompanied by
a letter of authenticity from
noted Beatles expert Frank
Caiazzo.
The date this album was
signed for the lucky fan was
an extremely busy day for
the band. They first taped a special edition of the BBC show Juke Box Jury being the star judges on the program and then gave a special
Northern area fan club convention live concert. Both events were taped and screened by the BBC later that evening having been recorded
in the afternoon at the Liverpool Empire. Following the television tapings they made their way down to the nearby Odeon Cinema to give two
more live performances later in the day as part of the groups UK 1963 winter tour, performing a 10-song set including, ‘Roll Over Beethoven,’
‘All My Loving,’ and ‘She Loves You.’
Released on November 22, 1963, With the Beatles went straight to the #1 position on the album chart, knocking their first album Please Please
Me out of the top spot, where it remained the best-selling album for 21 weeks and charted for 40 weeks. This stereo version of the album is
extremely rare on its own. Identified as a first pressing by the “Jobete” publishing credit for the song ‘Money’, as well as the incorrect spelling
of the song title ‘You Really Gotta [sic, Got A] Hold On Me,’ this particular version of the album is seldom-seen and highly prized by music
collectors. Roughly only 15–20 band-signed copies of any version of With the Beatles are known to exist, with this being only the second
very rare stereo first pressing cover that we have been able to find. One of the utmost of Beatles and rock and roll rarities! Pre-certified Roger

2. Beatles. Extraordinary vintage semi-glossy 9.75 x 7 photo of the Beatles on stage circa 1963, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “John
[L]ennon, To Rita, Love from the Beatles,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” and “Ringo Starr.” In very good condition, with three trimmed
edges (the “L” in Lennon’s signature is trimmed off), a few unobtrusive creases, spot of surface loss at George’s knee and upper right corner,
and all signatures but Ringo’s a few shades light. The Beatles presented the photo to television director Rita Gillespie, who directed the music
show Boy Meet Girls from 1959 to 1960, as well as the Beatles’ 1964 TV special, Around the Beatles. Also includes an original color glossy
4.5 x 4.5 photo of Gillespie on a TV set, surrounded by the Fab Four dressed in court jester costumes. An especially impressive piece, given
the early date and entertainment-world association. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000)

3. Beatles. Vintage 7 x 9.25 tour program
photo from the band’s 1963 tour with Chris
Montez and Tommy Roe, signed in blue
ballpoint, “Ringo Starr xxx,” “John Lennon
xx,” “Lots of love, Paul McCartney xxxx,”
and “George Harrison.” Double-matted and
framed to an overall size of 23.25 x 17.75.
Moderate creasing, not affecting legibility of
signatures, central horizontal and vertical
folds, and a couple of small separations,
otherwise very good condition. All the
signatures are quite large and bold. Accom-
panied by a copy of the fully intact original
program and a 1999 letter of authenticity
from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo
who indicates the signatures were acquired
circa March 1963. This tour was originally to
be headlined by Chris Montez and Tommy
Roe, however after the first night of the tour
on March 9, 1963, the Beatles became the
headliners. This was due to ‘Please Please
Me’ spending its third week at number one
and though the release of the debut album
of the same name was still two weeks away,
it was clear that Beatlemania was about to

flow, a light central vertical crease, some light cover wear, and remnants of the original owner’s name above McCartney’s signature, otherwise
fine condition. The band seldom signed magazines, and this particular magazine, featuring a classic color Hoffman image, is a true rock and
roll rarity. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000)

5. Beatles. Outstanding original vintage
glossy 6.5 x 8.5 full-length photo of the
band taken in November 1962 by Astrid
Kirchherr, boldly signed on the reverse in
blue ballpoint, “Paul McCartney xxx,” “John
Lennon xxx,” “George Harrison xxx,” and
“Ringo Starr xxx.” In very good condition,
withsomescatteredcreases,noneaffecting

surface marks, creases, and impressions
from signatures on reverse to image side.
Signatures were acquired at the Queen’s
Theatre in Blackpool, Lancashire in the
summer of 1963 given to a gentleman who
helped the band take their equipment into
the venue. Accompanied by two letters
of authenticity from noted Beatles expert
Frank Caiazzo, both dated April 28, 2013,
one authenticating the signatures and the other appraising the photo. Also included is a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Perry
Cox. One of the earliest known images of the final incarnation of the band, as Ringo had accepted an offer to join the band in August of 1962.

6. Beatles. Vintage promo card photo of the Beatles, circa early 1962, 5.5 x 3.5, showing the band, clad in matching suits, sitting in a semi-
circle, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ballpoint, “To Jean, love Paul McCartney xxx,” “Love to Jean from Pete Best xxx,” “Love
to Jean from John Lennon xxx,” and “Jean, George Harrison xxx.” In fine condition, with surface impressions to image from the crisp, bold
signatures on reverse. A particularly early example as Best would be replaced in August of 1962 by drummer Ringo Starr. Pre-certified Roger

7. Beatles. Please Please Me album signed and inscribed on the back cover in blue ballpoint, “To Linda, love from the Beatles, John Lennon
xxx,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” and “Ringo Starr.” Back cover is also signed in blue ballpoint by Tommy Roe and Chris Montez.
In good to very good condition, with scattered soiling and staining, partial separation to bottom edge, old tape repairs and peeling to edges,
creasing to front cover, as well as a staple hole to top left corner, and several small name notations in another hand. The record is included.
With the additional signatures of Roe and Montez, it seems almost certain that the signatures were acquired during their March 1963 tour of
England. Any album signed by all four members is highly desirable, with only roughly 75 signed copies of this title known to exist. Pre-certified

8. Beatles. Vintage Parlophone Records promotional photocard from October of 1962, 5.5 x 3.25, featuring an image of the band working in
the recording studio, signed on the reverse in green ballpoint, “Ringo Starr xxx,” and “John Lennon,” and in blue ballpoint, “Paul McCartney,”
and “George Harrison.” Double-matted and framed (so both sides may be viewed) with a stereo Please Please Me album cover to an overall
size of 21.5 x 27. In very good condition, with some light dampstaining showing through from opposite side, missing top corner tips (not visible
on signature side), and some scattered light soiling, not detracting from the boldness of the signatures. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity
from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo stating, “The signatures on this card date from early 1963, and these represent excellent examples
from the period.” Also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Parlophone Records produced a small quantity of promotional
photocards in two formats—a horizontal and a vertical, both with pictures being shot by Dezo Hoffman while the Beatles were in the studio.
Almost all of these cards were signed on the reverse, because there was very little light area on the front of the cards for their signatures. Taken
September 4, 1962, by famed Beatles photographer Dezo Hoffmann, it shows the group in their final incarnation at the very beginning of their
storied career, and the first promo card with new drummer Ringo. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000)
9. Beatles. Original vintage oversized B.O.A.C.—Cunard in-
flight menu for the “Beatles Bahamas Special” London to New
York flight in February of 1965. The four-page menu measures
7.5 x 10.75, and is signed and inscribed in black ballpoint on the
first page, “Best wishes to Stephen, Paul McCartney,” “Good
heaven from John Lennon,” and “Ringo Starr,” and signed on
the back cover in blue ballpoint, “George Harrison.” First page
is also signed in black ballpoint by Help! cast members Victor
Spinetti (ins), Eleanor Bron, Roy Kinnear, and John Bluthal,
adding his character name underneath. All signatures on the
first page uniformly lightly faded, but all still completely legible,
creasing to covers, and a couple small edge tears and areas of
surfacelosstofrontcover,otherwisefinecondition.OnFebruary
22, 1965, the band flew from London to the Bahamas, with a
stop in New York, to commence filming on their second feature
film, HELP! The following day, primary shooting began—and
filming in various locations would continue over the next two weeks. Although the Bahamas sequences would be the last to appear in the
completed film, it was the first location on the shooting schedule. Authentic examples of their signatures from this period are scarce as they
were virtually inaccessible by their fans. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000)

the band on playing cards on the front cover.
Signed in blue ballpoint on their full page image
on the inside cover, “John Lennon,” “George
Harrison,”“RingoStarr,”and“PaulMcCartney.”
A collector’s notation of “November 1, 1964,”
has been added to the front cover. In very good
condition, with light creasing and wrinkling to
cover and signed page, other creasing and
handling wear to inside pages, missing upper
staple of binding, and a spot of light toning
to first page. Accompanied by a letter of
provenance from the original recipient which
reads, “I can confirm that the Beatles playing
cards programme was signed on November
1st at Finsbury Park, Astoria Cinema, London
in 1964. My mother knew the management staff who obtained the autographs personally for myself as I was ill…As a gift my parents gave me
the programme the day after the concert.” The band played a 10-song set at the cinema, including ‘Twist and Shout,’ ‘If I Fell,’ and ‘A Hard
Day’s Night.’ A scarce signed program which more than made up for the poor girl missing the show. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and

11. Beatles. Vintage ballpoint signatures, “John Lennon” and “Ringo Starr,” on a light green 5.5 x 3.25 album page from 1964, and “Beatles
George Harrison xxx” and “Paul McCartney xxx,” on a beige 6 x 3 album page, bearing a collector’s notation on the reverse, “Ritz Ballroom
Birmingham, Fri 15th February 1963.” In fine condition, with a few light wrinkles to both pages. The Beatles were originally scheduled to ap-
pear at the Ritz in January of 1963, however, the show was postponed due to a blizzard. By the time the rescheduled show took place in July,
Please Please Me was riding the charts and Beatlemania was beginning to spread, but fortunately for the promoters, the band honored their
originally agreed upon booking fee. A great set of early signatures from the height of Beatlemania. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and

14. Beatles. Choice vintage ballpoint signatures of Paul McCartney,
Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and John Lennon on an off-white 5.25 x
7 lightly-lined sheet. Signatures were obtained in September of 1967
at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay, Cornwall, England, while the Beatles
were filming Magical Mystery Tour. In fine condition, with a central hori-
zontal fold passing through Harrison’s last name, and some scattered
light creases. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
Also accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient
which reads, “While on holiday in Newquay Cornwall, my friend and I
went to the Atlantic Hotel where the Beatles were staying while filming
the Magical Mystery Tour. While there we met the fan club secretaries,
who took us into the hotel lounge to meet John, Paul, George & Ringo.
We chatted to them for about 5 mins and Paul jokingly asked ‘Where
you from then,’ having recognised our Liverpool accents. They then
gave us their autographs. This was in Sept. 1967.” The band, cast, and
crew descended on the Atlantic Hotel on September 12, 1967, with the
intention of staying for just one night, but after considerable discussion
they decided to make it the base for filming in the area and stayed for
three nights. After filming both at the hotel and surrounding areas on
the 13th and 14th, the Beatles and their party departed after breakfast

on an off-white 3.75 x 5.25 sheet. Double-matted and framed with two photos of the three signers to an overall size of 18 x 9.75. In very good
condition, with moderate creases, some through portions of signatures and scattered soiling. Accompanied by a 2007 letter of appraisal from
noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, who states: “These signatures date from 1968, and as such are extremely rare, because the Beatles
signed very few items that year…I place a value of $6,000…on this item.” Any signatures from this late in the band’s career are particularly
scarce, as all touring had ceased two years earlier. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $500)

Album song “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?,” on an off-white 6.5 x
6.25 napkin, signed at the bottom in black felt tip, “Paul McCartney!!,
2010.” McCartney pens a few lines of the repetitive song. In full: “Why
don’t we do it / in the road? / Why don’t we do it / in the road? / No-one
will / be watching us / Why don’t we do it / in the road?” Nicely matted
and framed to an overall size of 11.5 x 12.5. In very fine condition.

McCartney is said to have originally written the song after seeing two

an act which raised tension among the already strained relationships
within the group. McCartney handwritten lyrics are extremely rare—

18. John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Promotional copy of the
Double Fantasy album signed on the back in black ballpoint in the
sky area of the Kishin Shinoyama photo, “Love, John Lennon” and
“Yoko Ono.” The record is not included. The album jacket, which is
embossed with ‘Promotional Copy Not For Sale,’ and also bears a
sticker which states, “Includes the single (Just Like) Starting Over,”
just below the name Yoko Ono on the front cover, has been split
along the top and bottom seams so as to display both sides, then
matted and framed to an overall size of 32.5 x 20. A mild area of
moisture discoloration and two spots of minor surface loss to up-
per left corner of back cover, and a small affixed photo covering an
inscription, otherwise fine condition.
This particular album was once owned by Dick Clark, and is ac-
companied by a 2006 auction book from Guernsey’s in which the item previously appeared, and also by two Frank Caiazzo letters: a letter of
authenticity, and an appraisal letter for the album issued in February 2007. To date, less than ten signed copies of Double Fantasy have been
documented, as Lennon signed a scant handful of promotional copies for close friends and associates. This example, according to Caiazzo,
was signed during the last week of November 1980, just two weeks before Lennon’s murder on December 8. A true rock rarity which would
hold a place of distinction in any Beatles or music collection. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000)

John drew the ‘Bag One Portfolio’—a chronicle of
their wedding ceremony, honeymoon, and their
plea for world peace in the Bed-In. The suite also
contained several erotic sketches. “The Bag One”
series was first published and exhibited in January
1970 at the London Art Gallery. On the second day
the exhibition was closed by Scotland Yard and the
erotic lithographs confiscated. The complete set of

Simply amazing unreleased one-hour
Lennon interview with Howard Smith from
1970 about the Beatles, tension surrounding
their final album, and his political activism
21. John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Two reels containing an unre-
leased and unedited audio interview with Lennon and Ono conducted
by Howard Smith in Toronto around late 1969. Smith, an overnight
rock DJ and columnist for the Village Voice enjoyed unprecedented
access to such rock luminaries as Lennon, Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison,
Pete Towshend and countless others. Both 1200˝ tapes are in their
original boxes with one labeled in an unknown hand, “John & Yoko
Toronto #1,” with the interview having a total running time of slightly
over one hour. In one part of the interview, Smith asks several ques-
tions about any touring plans for the band, their upcoming album, and
the potential breaking up of the group.
Excerpts are as follows:
HS: Will there be more Beatles records coming out soon?
JL: “There’s a Beatles album coming out in January which we finished
a few months back…Get Back…It was the one that was originally
scheduled before Abbey Road…to tie it up with the film which is a
documentary of us suffering making the thing.”
HS: Whose songs will be on the album?
JL: “All of us…It’s a strange album…We never really finished it…we
didn’t really want to do it. Paul was hustling for us to do it…It’s the
Beatles with their suits off.”
HS: How do you decide whose songs go on the album now that
George is writing?
JL: “We hustle for it…in the old days Paul and I won…I don’t know
personally if there will ever be another Beatle product with the four
of us on again…In the old days Paul and I wrote most of the songs
because George wasn’t prolific. We encouraged him to an extent,
subconsciously we would have just made sure we got the LP for
ourselves…Now there’s three of us all trying to squash ourselves
onto 14 tracks…Do we make a double album everytime…that’s why
I broke out with the Plastic Ono Band.”
HS: There have been rumors that you are breaking up. Is that
true at all?
JL: “Ringo’s left once, George has left once for a couple of days.”
HS: Any chance the Beatles will tour ever again?
JL: “I’d say it’s 90–1 chance they wont. It doesn’t sound very inviting
to me…touring. Touring was a drag…It was just a drag. I don’t know
how the Stones did this tour…It was complete madness from morning
till night, not one moment’s peace…Living with each other in a room
for four years on tour, we toured for four years…Of course there were
many great moments…when we talk about it there’s many laughs, but
when you get down to the physical reality it was all pain because there
was nothing in the music. We would get no feedback…we weren’t
improving…half the time we would just mime on the mic because your
voice had gone. The kids would just be howling.”
HS: People just
want to see you
perform live.
JL: “It’s an anti-
climaxtothebuild-
up of the myth,
the myth is bigger
than the actual
four human gui-
tarists, three guitarists and a drummer. The myth is bigger than the
reality…I’m inclined to leave them with the myth. If the Beatles would
split open the group a bit and haveYoko, and Billy Preston, Bob Dylan,
Eric Clapton, and Elvis Presley in the group I might be interested. But
as the Fab Four I’m not personally interested in going out like that.”
Lennon begins the interview discussing his political activism, as he
is in Toronto making plans for a peace festival in July of 1970, with
faint hopes the rest of the band might join him there. Unfortunately,
the required permits were denied, and it was later revealed that John
and Yoko were under the scrutiny of the Canadian security service.
He also discusses his continued support of James Hanratty’s family
eight years after his execution, makes mentions of his bed-in in Mon-
treal, and their “War Is Over” billboard campaign. The most interesting
pieces of the interview naturally center around the final months of the
Beatles, as Lennon openly discusses the difficulty of each member
campaigning for their own songs to be included, the tension in the
studio, and the ridiculous public expectations placed upon the band.
Originally titled Get Back, the album was reworked by Phil Spector
and retitled Let It Be, their final studio album. This particular interview
goes hand-in-hand with the opinions of many rock historians about
the recording of the album, as John echoes the sentiments of the ag-
gravation and discord amongst the members that led to their eventual
break-up later that year. A never-before-released frank and honest
interview from one of the most revered musicians and activists of all
time. RR Auction COA.…(MB $300)

22. John Lennon. Walls and Bridges album signed and inscribed on the front
cover in blue ballpoint, “To Richard and Cynn ‘Home’ with love and tee shirts
from yer old pal John 74,” adding a self-portrait caricature under his signature,
as well as small sketches of an elephant and a dog. Lennon has also added
the proper genitalia to one of the soccer players on the album cover. In very
good condition, with separated top edge, scattered edge wear and creases,
and some dampstaining along top edge. The record is included. Richard and
his first wife, Cynthia Ross, were the owners of Manhattan’s Home restaurant
and bar which was a regular haunt for Lennon. The ex-Beatle and Richard
Ross had an ongoing joke regarding elephants, as well as a close friendship,
explaining the anatomical addition to the cover. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/

prior to the band’s performance at the Town Hall in Abergavenny, on June 22, 1963. The reason that the recipient did not get John Lennon’s
autograph is because he was still in London recording a TV appearance on the program ‘Ready Steady Go.’ Immediately after the recording,
Lennon was flown by a private helicopter just in time to get to the Town Hall to appear on stage at the venue. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/

24. John Lennon. Christmas card from
1978, measuring 3.5 x 8.5 closed, with a
printed drawing by Sean Lennon on the
front. Lennon has turned the blank inside
sideways, 8.5 x 7.5 opened, and signed in-
side in black felt tip, “Happy 79! Love, John,
Yoko, Sean, 78,” then added three adorable
caricatures of himself, Yoko, and Sean. In
fine, bright, clean condition. Accompanied
by the original mailing envelope, addressed
in type to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Keller in New
York, with a typed return address on the
back flap of “Studio One, with a Dake Keller
and Associates office stamp on the front,
dated December 27, 1978. Card originates
from the collection of Dale and Pat Keller,
world renowned interior designers. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
Lennon’s began drawing at a relatively early age, ending up at the Liverpool College of Art, after failing
his GCE O-level exams, with the intention of becoming a commercial artist. He was a constant disrup-
tion while enrolled, being banned from several classes before he was eventually expelled. His drawing and writing continued throughout his
career with the Beatles, and after the band broke up. More than a dozen exhibitions of his work were arranged during his lifetime. At the time
he sent this magnificent example to the Kellers, John was still in the midst of his five-year hiatus, devoting all of his time to his family and
being a house husband. As evidenced by the portrait, he took to it quite well, with all three family members sporting large smiles. While small
doodles of John and Yoko appear occasionally, such large family portraits are seldom encountered. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and

signatures were obtained at the Foyles Luncheon

26. Beatles. Eight unpublished original 2.25 x 2.25 negatives of the Beatles arriving
in Adelaide during their 1964 tour of Australia. Three show the Beatles—John, Paul, and
George—deplaning and on the tarmac, three show them riding in a special convertible,
and two show immense crowds gathered to receive them. Includes contact prints of
each negative. Images are sold with copyright. In overall fine condition. Provenance:
Christie’s, 1990.
Although the Beatles included Australia among their stops during the 1964 world tour,
Adelaide wasn’t originally on the itinerary. A petition from local DJ Bob Francis con-
vinced them it was worthwhile, after he acquired over 80,000 signatures in three weeks’
time—in response, the Beatles made the city the site of their first-ever Australian show.
They arrived in Adelaide on June 12, 1964, to an overwhelming reception—somewhere
between 200,000 and 350,000 lined the streets to welcome them as their motorcade
took them from the airport to their hotel. Ringo Starr had fallen ill from tonsillitis a week
earlier, leading Brian Epstein to hire Jimmie Nicol to fill in—it was Nicol behind the drum
kit for all four of their Adelaide shows (though he is absent from these photos), before
Ringo was able to rejoin the band at their next stop in Melbourne. From their touchdown
at the airport to the massive crowds, these fantastic unpublished images capture the very
essence of the Beatles’ historic arrival on the continent. RR Auction COA.…(MB $300)

white linen matte, presented to Capitol Records “to com-

and an image of the album cover to an overall size of 17.5 x
21.5. There is no New York Picture & Frame Co. sticker on
reverse. However, there is an appropriate sized adhesive
remnant which indicates it was once there. In fine condition,
with some dings and wear to frame. This compilation album
would go on to be 17x platinum certified by the RIAA. Any
award directly associated to the Beatles is quite scarce and
highly sought after. RR Auction COA.…(MB $300)

part: “I…was Elvis Presley’s personal nurse from 1968–1977. I…lived on the Graceland
property from 1973–1983…Elvis gave me many of his personal belongings as gifts while I
was taking care of him and his family…This jacket was the winter jacket. They were made
for security so that Elvis could see them from the stage…This jacket, size 40, was Elvis’.
To my knowledge, he never wore it. He tried it on and said, ‘Tishina, I’m, no…baseball
player.’…One evening at Graceland as I was leaving, it was pouring down rain. Elvis put
the jacket over my head and zipped [sic, buttoned] it up and said ‘now you won’t melt.’
The next day after work, I took his jacket to him and he told me to keep it.” In fine condi-

a charming example of the king’s legendary generosity. RR Auction COA.…(MB $300)

model 1166. Light is

dimensionsofapproxi-

bracket and three slots for magnets (two of which retain their magnets;
the third magnet is present and seems as if it could be forced back
in). In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from his
personal nurse, Tish Henley, in full: “Elvis had a close relationship with
the mayors and police officers in Shelby County. He had several blue lights, and yes, he played with them. The night he gave me my 1976
Pontiac Gran Prix, he drove it first out I-55 and put the light on the dash. He drove very fast as usual. I was excited, nervous, and very scared.”
The connection between Elvis and the police is stronger than one might think—not only the purveyor of ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ Presley collected
police badges and patches from wherever he went, and was friendly with local police forces—even occasionally joining them on their rounds.
Of this fascination, Retired Memphis Police Department Captain Robert Ferguson once said, ‘Elvis didn’t want to be a chief or a sheriff;
he wanted to be a policeman, and this identified himself with the patrolmen on the force...He actually appeared to be in awe of us, rather
than the other way around.’ His ex-wife Priscilla also wrote about this in her memoir, describing Elvis’s wilder side and confirming his use of
vehicular gadgetry: ‘He had a million badges and a blue police light on his car. He liked nothing more than putting that light on his car and
pulling people over. He’d walk up to the window, show off his official badge and say, ‘Son, you were speeding. Just want to warn you to slow
down.’ The driver would see him and remain speechless.’ An amazing item personally owned by Presley and related to one of his favorite
hobbies. RR Auction COA.…(MB $500)

Marine Band harmonica in the key of E, signed
across the top in black felt tip by Dylan. In
very fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of
authenticity from Hohner, certifying that Dylan
has both played and signed the harmonica.
Although Dylan began playing the harmonica
in high school, it wasn’t until the fall of 1960 that
his ‘chugging’ style began to develop. By the
time of his arrival in New York City in January
1961, he was an adept player, and the sound of
the harmonica characterizes many of his earlier
works. A remarkable collectible from Dylan,
who is doubtlessly the most sought after living

140. Jimi Hendrix. Vintage glossy 11.75 x 18 photo of Hendrix performing on stage and matted to a size of 15.5 x 22, signed and inscribed
on the mat in brown felt tip “To Steve, who understands…Love Happiness and peace of Mind to you forever, Jimi Hendrix, September 9,
1969,” with Hendrix adding doodles of stars, hearts, a bumblebee, a moon, and some scrollwork along the bottom. Framed to an overall size
of 24.25 x 31.25. In fine condition, with all of Hendrix’s writing and doodles uniformly lightly faded, but all still completely legible. The photo
was originally presented to famed management attorney Stevens ‘Steve’ Weiss and originates from his archives. Weiss would begin his
relationship with Hendrix on a strictly business level, however their relationship would evolve into a close friendship. Any signed images of
Hendrix are rare and highly desirable, this oversized photo even more so due to Hendrix’s spontaneous artwork and the importance of the

142. Jimi Hendrix. Amazing program for Hendrix’s 1969 US tour, entitled ‘Electric Church: A Visual Experience,’ 12 x 12, 30 pages, signed
twice and inscribed on the back cover in blue ballpoint, “Love and Happiness to the Queen of the Sky, to Angel Maria, Stay free forever, Jimi
Hendrix,” and “Thank you for the future, Jimi Hendrix,” along with a small sketch of a heart. The six page cover is intact with irregular staining
to the left side of the back cover (primarily affecting the upper signature and inscription), otherwise fine condition; the pages inside are clean.
Hendrix embraced the ‘electric church’ concept as a cosmic, quasi-spiritual belief that music could flow around the world like an electrical
force, into bodies and out of souls, enlightening people along the way. On the Dick Cavett show in 1969, Hendrix explained that he designed
his music to go ‘inside the soul of the person, and awaken some kind of thing inside, because there are so many sleeping people.’ It is no
coincidence, either, that he literally relied on electricity to create his music in the first place—at its core, the Hendrix sound is the result of
an electrical signal passing through a series of wires, magnets, transistors, and vacuum tubes. This is a particularly fantastic example of a
Hendrix signed album because it incorporates these cosmic ideas into the inscriptions, “Love and Happiness to the Queen of the Sky” and
“Thank you for the future,” which are reminiscent of some of his more psychedelic lyrics.Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction

the page is headed
at the top in an un-

also signed on both sides by 18 others, including Rainbow Bridge collaborators Michael Jeffrey (producer), Chuck Wein (director), Melinda
Merryweather, John Schreyer (editor), Michael Hynson, Maureen Thornton, Miss Mercy, and Patricia Hartley. In fine condition.
The day prior to signing this register, Hendrix played a free outdoor concert on the slopes of Hawaii’s Haleakala volcano. The show would
be included in the film Rainbow Bridge—a documentary about various singers, musicians, and artists, who attended a ‘New Age’ gathering
in Maui—which was financed by Hendrix’s manager, Mike Jeffrey, who also signed the register. The final version of the film used very little
footage from the show, as it was not intended to be a concert film, and no songs were released on the soundtrack due to poor audio quality
due to the strong winds that day. The following day Hendrix and his reformed Experience, would play his final show in the United States, at
the Honolulu International Center, before heading to Europe on the second leg of the tour, which concluded just two weeks before his untimely
death. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $300)

  • 5. beatles 3 1. Beatles. Ultra rare UK stereo first pressing first cover With the Beatles album signed in the upper white area in blue ballpoint, “RingoStarr,”“GeorgeHar- rison,” “Paul McCartney,” and “John Lennon.”The signatures were acquired at the Liverpool Empire on December 7, 1963, during a backstage meeting with a male fan after he was a guest of the group during the day and attended their performance on Juke Box Jury and then the concert arranged by the fan club. In fine condition, with a bit of light irregular ink adhesion to end of Starr’s signature andbeginningofHarrison’s, a light album impression to front cover and a few minor edgecreases.Therecordis included. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo. The date this album was signed for the lucky fan was an extremely busy day for the band. They first taped a special edition of the BBC show Juke Box Jury being the star judges on the program and then gave a special Northern area fan club convention live concert. Both events were taped and screened by the BBC later that evening having been recorded in the afternoon at the Liverpool Empire. Following the television tapings they made their way down to the nearby Odeon Cinema to give two more live performances later in the day as part of the groups UK 1963 winter tour, performing a 10-song set including, ‘Roll Over Beethoven,’ ‘All My Loving,’ and ‘She Loves You.’ Released on November 22, 1963, With the Beatles went straight to the #1 position on the album chart, knocking their first album Please Please Me out of the top spot, where it remained the best-selling album for 21 weeks and charted for 40 weeks. This stereo version of the album is extremely rare on its own. Identified as a first pressing by the “Jobete” publishing credit for the song ‘Money’, as well as the incorrect spelling of the song title ‘You Really Gotta [sic, Got A] Hold On Me,’ this particular version of the album is seldom-seen and highly prized by music collectors. Roughly only 15–20 band-signed copies of any version of With the Beatles are known to exist, with this being only the second very rare stereo first pressing cover that we have been able to find. One of the utmost of Beatles and rock and roll rarities! Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $5000) Virtually nonexistent signed stereo first pressing of With the Beatles
  • 6. beatles4 2. Beatles. Extraordinary vintage semi-glossy 9.75 x 7 photo of the Beatles on stage circa 1963, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “John [L]ennon, To Rita, Love from the Beatles,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” and “Ringo Starr.” In very good condition, with three trimmed edges (the “L” in Lennon’s signature is trimmed off), a few unobtrusive creases, spot of surface loss at George’s knee and upper right corner, and all signatures but Ringo’s a few shades light. The Beatles presented the photo to television director Rita Gillespie, who directed the music show Boy Meet Girls from 1959 to 1960, as well as the Beatles’ 1964 TV special, Around the Beatles. Also includes an original color glossy 4.5 x 4.5 photo of Gillespie on a TV set, surrounded by the Fab Four dressed in court jester costumes. An especially impressive piece, given the early date and entertainment-world association. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) Early photo presented to the director of their 1964 TV special
  • 7. beatles 5 3. Beatles. Vintage 7 x 9.25 tour program photo from the band’s 1963 tour with Chris Montez and Tommy Roe, signed in blue ballpoint, “Ringo Starr xxx,” “John Lennon xx,” “Lots of love, Paul McCartney xxxx,” and “George Harrison.” Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 23.25 x 17.75. Moderate creasing, not affecting legibility of signatures, central horizontal and vertical folds, and a couple of small separations, otherwise very good condition. All the signatures are quite large and bold. Accom- panied by a copy of the fully intact original program and a 1999 letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo who indicates the signatures were acquired circa March 1963. This tour was originally to be headlined by Chris Montez and Tommy Roe, however after the first night of the tour on March 9, 1963, the Beatles became the headliners. This was due to ‘Please Please Me’ spending its third week at number one and though the release of the debut album of the same name was still two weeks away, it was clear that Beatlemania was about to explode.Pre-certifiedRogerEpperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) 1963 program signed while ‘Please, Please Me’ sat at #1
  • 8. beatles6 4. Beatles. Scarce original vintage UK Beatles magazine from 1963, published by PYX, 7.25 x 9.5, 28 pages, featuring a classic color Dezo Hoffman photograph of band in their matching gray collarless suits on the cover, signed in foun- tain pen, “Paul McCartney,” in blue ballpoint, “John Len- non,” and “Ringo Starr,” and in black ballpoint, “George Harrisonxxx.”Signatureswere obtained in Jersey, Channel Islands in August of 1963, where they played four nights at the Sprtingfield Ballroom. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient which states: “This bookletwasissuedforthevisit of the Beatles to St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands in August 1963. A friend and I attended two of their concerts and having found where they werestaying, weleftourcopies on the desk in the hotel foyer. George Harrison came back earlier (I Think they were at a party with Frankie Howerd) and kindly signed his name plus three xxx s! John, Paul and Ringo duly arrived and signed all the programs, of which there were possibly about a dozen…The Beatles could be seen driving around freely on the island in their convertible and would often stoptoofferpeoplearide. This happened to us in the area of St. Brelade’s Bay, but we declined as we were going in the opposite direction!” Some light skipping to Harrison’s signature from irregular ink flow, a light central vertical crease, some light cover wear, and remnants of the original owner’s name above McCartney’s signature, otherwise fine condition. The band seldom signed magazines, and this particular magazine, featuring a classic color Hoffman image, is a true rock and roll rarity. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) One of the earliest and finest fan magazines, signed on the classic Hoffman cover
  • 9. beatles 7 5. Beatles. Outstanding original vintage glossy 6.5 x 8.5 full-length photo of the band taken in November 1962 by Astrid Kirchherr, boldly signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, “Paul McCartney xxx,” “John Lennon xxx,” “George Harrison xxx,” and “Ringo Starr xxx.” In very good condition, withsomescatteredcreases, noneaffecting the amazing signatures, and scattered light surface marks, creases, and impressions from signatures on reverse to image side. Signatures were acquired at the Queen’s Theatre in Blackpool, Lancashire in the summer of 1963 given to a gentleman who helped the band take their equipment into the venue. Accompanied by two letters of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, both dated April 28, 2013, one authenticating the signatures and the other appraising the photo. Also included is a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Perry Cox. One of the earliest known images of the final incarnation of the band, as Ringo had accepted an offer to join the band in August of 1962. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) 6. Beatles. Vintage promo card photo of the Beatles, circa early 1962, 5.5 x 3.5, showing the band, clad in matching suits, sitting in a semi- circle, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ballpoint, “To Jean, love Paul McCartney xxx,” “Love to Jean from Pete Best xxx,” “Love to Jean from John Lennon xxx,” and “Jean, George Harrison xxx.” In fine condition, with surface impressions to image from the crisp, bold signatures on reverse. A particularly early example as Best would be replaced in August of 1962 by drummer Ringo Starr. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) Original 1962 Astrid Kirchherr uninscribed band portrait with new drummer Ringo Starr Early and complete band-signed promo card with Pete Best
  • 10. beatles8 7. Beatles. Please Please Me album signed and inscribed on the back cover in blue ballpoint, “To Linda, love from the Beatles, John Lennon xxx,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” and “Ringo Starr.” Back cover is also signed in blue ballpoint by Tommy Roe and Chris Montez. In good to very good condition, with scattered soiling and staining, partial separation to bottom edge, old tape repairs and peeling to edges, creasing to front cover, as well as a staple hole to top left corner, and several small name notations in another hand. The record is included. With the additional signatures of Roe and Montez, it seems almost certain that the signatures were acquired during their March 1963 tour of England. Any album signed by all four members is highly desirable, with only roughly 75 signed copies of this title known to exist. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) The ‘Fab Four’ all sign their debut album while on the road in March of 1963
  • 11. beatles 9 8. Beatles. Vintage Parlophone Records promotional photocard from October of 1962, 5.5 x 3.25, featuring an image of the band working in the recording studio, signed on the reverse in green ballpoint, “Ringo Starr xxx,” and “John Lennon,” and in blue ballpoint, “Paul McCartney,” and “George Harrison.” Double-matted and framed (so both sides may be viewed) with a stereo Please Please Me album cover to an overall size of 21.5 x 27. In very good condition, with some light dampstaining showing through from opposite side, missing top corner tips (not visible on signature side), and some scattered light soiling, not detracting from the boldness of the signatures. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo stating, “The signatures on this card date from early 1963, and these represent excellent examples from the period.” Also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Parlophone Records produced a small quantity of promotional photocards in two formats—a horizontal and a vertical, both with pictures being shot by Dezo Hoffman while the Beatles were in the studio. Almost all of these cards were signed on the reverse, because there was very little light area on the front of the cards for their signatures. Taken September 4, 1962, by famed Beatles photographer Dezo Hoffmann, it shows the group in their final incarnation at the very beginning of their storied career, and the first promo card with new drummer Ringo. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) 9. Beatles. Original vintage oversized B.O.A.C.—Cunard in- flight menu for the “Beatles Bahamas Special” London to New York flight in February of 1965. The four-page menu measures 7.5 x 10.75, and is signed and inscribed in black ballpoint on the first page, “Best wishes to Stephen, Paul McCartney,” “Good heaven from John Lennon,” and “Ringo Starr,” and signed on the back cover in blue ballpoint, “George Harrison.” First page is also signed in black ballpoint by Help! cast members Victor Spinetti (ins), Eleanor Bron, Roy Kinnear, and John Bluthal, adding his character name underneath. All signatures on the first page uniformly lightly faded, but all still completely legible, creasing to covers, and a couple small edge tears and areas of surfacelosstofrontcover, otherwisefinecondition.OnFebruary 22, 1965, the band flew from London to the Bahamas, with a stop in New York, to commence filming on their second feature film, HELP! The following day, primary shooting began—and filming in various locations would continue over the next two weeks. Although the Bahamas sequences would be the last to appear in the completed film, it was the first location on the shooting schedule. Authentic examples of their signatures from this period are scarce as they were virtually inaccessible by their fans. • 12. beatles10 10. Beatles. Original ‘Four Aces’ program from the Beatles Fall 1964 tour with Mary Wells, 8 x 10.5, 16 pages, featuring images of the band on playing cards on the front cover. Signed in blue ballpoint on their full page image on the inside cover, “John Lennon,” “George Harrison,”“RingoStarr,”and“PaulMcCartney.” A collector’s notation of “November 1, 1964,” has been added to the front cover. In very good condition, with light creasing and wrinkling to cover and signed page, other creasing and handling wear to inside pages, missing upper staple of binding, and a spot of light toning to first page. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient which reads, “I can confirm that the Beatles playing cards programme was signed on November 1st at Finsbury Park, Astoria Cinema, London in 1964. My mother knew the management staff who obtained the autographs personally for myself as I was ill…As a gift my parents gave me the programme the day after the concert.” The band played a 10-song set at the cinema, including ‘Twist and Shout,’ ‘If I Fell,’ and ‘A Hard Day’s Night.’ A scarce signed program which more than made up for the poor girl missing the show. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $1000) 11. Beatles. Vintage ballpoint signatures, “John Lennon” and “Ringo Starr,” on a light green 5.5 x 3.25 album page from 1964, and “Beatles George Harrison xxx” and “Paul McCartney xxx,” on a beige 6 x 3 album page, bearing a collector’s notation on the reverse, “Ritz Ballroom Birmingham, Fri 15th February 1963.” In fine condition, with a few light wrinkles to both pages. The Beatles were originally scheduled to ap- pear at the Ritz in January of 1963, however, the show was postponed due to a blizzard. By the time the rescheduled show took place in July, Please Please Me was riding the charts and Beatlemania was beginning to spread, but fortunately for the promoters, the band honored their originally agreed upon booking fee. A great set of early signatures from the height of Beatlemania. • 14. beatles12 14. Beatles. Choice vintage ballpoint signatures of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and John Lennon on an off-white 5.25 x 7 lightly-lined sheet. Signatures were obtained in September of 1967 at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay, Cornwall, England, while the Beatles were filming Magical Mystery Tour. In fine condition, with a central hori- zontal fold passing through Harrison’s last name, and some scattered light creases. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Also accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient which reads, “While on holiday in Newquay Cornwall, my friend and I went to the Atlantic Hotel where the Beatles were staying while filming the Magical Mystery Tour. While there we met the fan club secretaries, who took us into the hotel lounge to meet John, Paul, George & Ringo. We chatted to them for about 5 mins and Paul jokingly asked ‘Where you from then,’ having recognised our Liverpool accents. They then gave us their autographs. This was in Sept. 1967.” The band, cast, and crew descended on the Atlantic Hotel on September 12, 1967, with the intention of staying for just one night, but after considerable discussion they decided to make it the base for filming in the area and stayed for three nights. After filming both at the hotel and surrounding areas on the 13th and 14th, the Beatles and their party departed after breakfast the following morning. In very good condition, with moderate creases, some through portions of signatures and scattered soiling. Accompanied by a 2007 letter of appraisal from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, who states: “These signatures date from 1968, and as such are extremely rare, because the Beatles signed very few items that year…I place a value of $6,000…on this item.” Any signatures from this late in the band’s career are particularly scarce, as all touring had ceased two years earlier. The album jacket, which is embossed with ‘Promotional Copy Not For Sale,’ and also bears a sticker which states, “Includes the single (Just Like) Starting Over,” just below the name Yoko Ono on the front cover, has been split along the top and bottom seams so as to display both sides, then matted and framed to an overall size of 32.5 x 20. A mild area of moisture discoloration and two spots of minor surface loss to up- per left corner of back cover, and a small affixed photo covering an inscription, otherwise fine condition. This particular album was once owned by Dick Clark, and is ac- companied by a 2006 auction book from Guernsey’s in which the item previously appeared, and also by two Frank Caiazzo letters: a letter of authenticity, and an appraisal letter for the album issued in February 2007. To date, less than ten signed copies of Double Fantasy have been documented, as Lennon signed a scant handful of promotional copies for close friends and associates. This example, according to Caiazzo, was signed during the last week of November 1980, just two weeks before Lennon’s murder on December 8. A true rock rarity which would hold a place of distinction in any Beatles or music collection. • 18. beatles16 Simply amazing unreleased one-hour Lennon interview with Howard Smith from 1970 about the Beatles, tension surrounding their final album, and his political activism 21. John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Two reels containing an unre- leased and unedited audio interview with Lennon and Ono conducted by Howard Smith in Toronto around late 1969. Smith, an overnight rock DJ and columnist for the Village Voice enjoyed unprecedented access to such rock luminaries as Lennon, Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, Pete Towshend and countless others. Both 1200˝ tapes are in their original boxes with one labeled in an unknown hand, “John & Yoko Toronto #1,” with the interview having a total running time of slightly over one hour. In one part of the interview, Smith asks several ques- tions about any touring plans for the band, their upcoming album, and the potential breaking up of the group. Excerpts are as follows: HS: Will there be more Beatles records coming out soon? JL: “There’s a Beatles album coming out in January which we finished a few months back…Get Back…It was the one that was originally scheduled before Abbey Road…to tie it up with the film which is a documentary of us suffering making the thing.” HS: Whose songs will be on the album? JL: “All of us…It’s a strange album…We never really finished it…we didn’t really want to do it. Paul was hustling for us to do it…It’s the Beatles with their suits off.” HS: How do you decide whose songs go on the album now that George is writing? JL: “We hustle for it…in the old days Paul and I won…I don’t know personally if there will ever be another Beatle product with the four of us on again…In the old days Paul and I wrote most of the songs because George wasn’t prolific. We encouraged him to an extent, subconsciously we would have just made sure we got the LP for ourselves…Now there’s three of us all trying to squash ourselves onto 14 tracks…Do we make a double album everytime…that’s why I broke out with the Plastic Ono Band.” HS: There have been rumors that you are breaking up. Is that true at all? JL: “Ringo’s left once, George has left once for a couple of days.” HS: Any chance the Beatles will tour ever again? JL: “I’d say it’s 90–1 chance they wont. It doesn’t sound very inviting to me…touring. Touring was a drag…It was just a drag. I don’t know how the Stones did this tour…It was complete madness from morning till night, not one moment’s peace…Living with each other in a room for four years on tour, we toured for four years…Of course there were many great moments…when we talk about it there’s many laughs, but when you get down to the physical reality it was all pain because there was nothing in the music. We would get no feedback…we weren’t improving…half the time we would just mime on the mic because your voice had gone. The kids would just be howling.” HS: People just want to see you perform live. JL: “It’s an anti- climaxtothebuild- up of the myth, the myth is bigger than the actual four human gui- tarists, three guitarists and a drummer. The myth is bigger than the reality…I’m inclined to leave them with the myth. If the Beatles would split open the group a bit and haveYoko, and Billy Preston, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and Elvis Presley in the group I might be interested. But as the Fab Four I’m not personally interested in going out like that.” Lennon begins the interview discussing his political activism, as he is in Toronto making plans for a peace festival in July of 1970, with faint hopes the rest of the band might join him there. Unfortunately, the required permits were denied, and it was later revealed that John and Yoko were under the scrutiny of the Canadian security service. He also discusses his continued support of James Hanratty’s family eight years after his execution, makes mentions of his bed-in in Mon- treal, and their “War Is Over” billboard campaign. The most interesting pieces of the interview naturally center around the final months of the Beatles, as Lennon openly discusses the difficulty of each member campaigning for their own songs to be included, the tension in the studio, and the ridiculous public expectations placed upon the band. Originally titled Get Back, the album was reworked by Phil Spector and retitled Let It Be, their final studio album. This particular interview goes hand-in-hand with the opinions of many rock historians about the recording of the album, as John echoes the sentiments of the ag- gravation and discord amongst the members that led to their eventual break-up later that year. A never-before-released frank and honest interview from one of the most revered musicians and activists of all time. RR Auction COA.…(MB $300)

Lennon has turned the blank inside sideways, 8.5 x 7.5 opened, and signed in- side in black felt tip, “Happy 79! Love, John, Yoko, Sean, 78,” then added three adorable caricatures of himself, Yoko, and Sean. In fine, bright, clean condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in type to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Keller in New York, with a typed return address on the back flap of “Studio One, with a Dake Keller and Associates office stamp on the front, dated December 27, 1978. Card originates from the collection of Dale and Pat Keller, world renowned interior designers. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Lennon’s began drawing at a relatively early age, ending up at the Liverpool College of Art, after failing his GCE O-level exams, with the intention of becoming a commercial artist. He was a constant disrup- tion while enrolled, being banned from several classes before he was eventually expelled. His drawing and writing continued throughout his career with the Beatles, and after the band broke up. More than a dozen exhibitions of his work were arranged during his lifetime. At the time he sent this magnificent example to the Kellers, John was still in the midst of his five-year hiatus, devoting all of his time to his family and being a house husband. As evidenced by the portrait, he took to it quite well, with all three family members sporting large smiles. • 21. beatles 19 26. Beatles. Eight unpublished original 2.25 x 2.25 negatives of the Beatles arriving in Adelaide during their 1964 tour of Australia. Three show the Beatles—John, Paul, and George—deplaning and on the tarmac, three show them riding in a special convertible, and two show immense crowds gathered to receive them. Includes contact prints of each negative. Images are sold with copyright. In overall fine condition. Provenance: Christie’s, 1990. Although the Beatles included Australia among their stops during the 1964 world tour, Adelaide wasn’t originally on the itinerary. A petition from local DJ Bob Francis con- vinced them it was worthwhile, after he acquired over 80,000 signatures in three weeks’ time—in response, the Beatles made the city the site of their first-ever Australian show. They arrived in Adelaide on June 12, 1964, to an overwhelming reception—somewhere between 200,000 and 350,000 lined the streets to welcome them as their motorcade took them from the airport to their hotel. Ringo Starr had fallen ill from tonsillitis a week earlier, leading Brian Epstein to hire Jimmie Nicol to fill in—it was Nicol behind the drum kit for all four of their Adelaide shows (though he is absent from these photos), before Ringo was able to rejoin the band at their next stop in Melbourne. From their touchdown at the airport to the massive crowds, these fantastic unpublished images capture the very essence of the Beatles’ historic arrival on the continent. RR Auction COA.…(MB $300) 27. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from his personal nurse, Tish Henley, in full: “Elvis had a close relationship with the mayors and police officers in Shelby County. He had several blue lights, and yes, he played with them. The night he gave me my 1976 Pontiac Gran Prix, he drove it first out I-55 and put the light on the dash. He drove very fast as usual. I was excited, nervous, and very scared.” The connection between Elvis and the police is stronger than one might think—not only the purveyor of ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ Presley collected police badges and patches from wherever he went, and was friendly with local police forces—even occasionally joining them on their rounds. Of this fascination, Retired Memphis Police Department Captain Robert Ferguson once said, ‘Elvis didn’t want to be a chief or a sheriff; he wanted to be a policeman, and this identified himself with the patrolmen on the force...He actually appeared to be in awe of us, rather than the other way around.’ His ex-wife Priscilla also wrote about this in her memoir, describing Elvis’s wilder side and confirming his use of vehicular gadgetry: ‘He had a million badges and a blue police light on his car. He liked nothing more than putting that light on his car and pulling people over. He’d walk up to the window, show off his official badge and say, ‘Son, you were speeding. Just want to warn you to slow down.’ The driver would see him and remain speechless.’ An amazing item personally owned by Presley and related to one of his favorite hobbies. • 47. 45jimi hendrix 142. Jimi Hendrix. Amazing program for Hendrix’s 1969 US tour, entitled ‘Electric Church: A Visual Experience,’ 12 x 12, 30 pages, signed twice and inscribed on the back cover in blue ballpoint, “Love and Happiness to the Queen of the Sky, to Angel Maria, Stay free forever, Jimi Hendrix,” and “Thank you for the future, Jimi Hendrix,” along with a small sketch of a heart. The six page cover is intact with irregular staining to the left side of the back cover (primarily affecting the upper signature and inscription), otherwise fine condition; the pages inside are clean. Hendrix embraced the ‘electric church’ concept as a cosmic, quasi-spiritual belief that music could flow around the world like an electrical force, into bodies and out of souls, enlightening people along the way. On the Dick Cavett show in 1969, Hendrix explained that he designed his music to go ‘inside the soul of the person, and awaken some kind of thing inside, because there are so many sleeping people.’ It is no coincidence, either, that he literally relied on electricity to create his music in the first place—at its core, the Hendrix sound is the result of an electrical signal passing through a series of wires, magnets, transistors, and vacuum tubes. This is a particularly fantastic example of a Hendrix signed album because it incorporates these cosmic ideas into the inscriptions, “Love and Happiness to the Queen of the Sky” and “Thank you for the future,” which are reminiscent of some of his more psychedelic lyrics.Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.…(MB $500) “Love and Happiness to the Queen of the Sky”
  • 48. jimi hendrix46 143. Jimi Hendrix. Leatherbound guest book from a hotel in Hawaii, 8 x 6, signed inside in black ball- point, “Jimi Hendrix, Seattle, Washington.” Althoughundated, the signatures immedi- ately preceeding and following Hendrix’s signature are both dated July 31, 1970, the page is headed at the top in an un- knownhand,“Antahka- rana Staff July/August 1970,” and the page is also signed on both sides by 18 others, including Rainbow Bridge collaborators Michael Jeffrey (producer), Chuck Wein (director), Melinda Merryweather, John Schreyer (editor), Michael Hynson, Maureen Thornton, Miss Mercy, and Patricia Hartley. In fine condition. The day prior to signing this register, Hendrix played a free outdoor concert on the slopes of Hawaii’s Haleakala volcano. The show would be included in the film Rainbow Bridge—a documentary about various singers, musicians, and artists, who attended a ‘New Age’ gathering in Maui—which was financed by Hendrix’s manager, Mike Jeffrey, who also signed the register. The final version of the film used very little footage from the show, as it was not intended to be a concert film, and no songs were released on the soundtrack due to poor audio quality due to the strong winds that day. The following day Hendrix and his reformed Experience, would play his final show in the United States, at the Honolulu International Center, before heading to Europe on the second leg of the tour, which concluded just two weeks before his untimely death.
