During the National Regional Transportation Conference (June 2019, Columbus, OH), Jason James shared the work of the Northern Arizona Council of Governments to develop its Regional Strategic Transportation Safety Plan.
5. Regional Strategic
Transportation Safety Plan
– Reduce fatalities & serious injuries
– Identify safety issues & priorities
– Positions region for acquisition of federal funding
– Data-driven safety analysis
– Selected Consultant: Burgess & Niple
6. Crash Trends
• 74.4% of fatal crashes were lane or roadway
departure crashes.
• Speeding and aggressive driving, impaired
driving, and restraint use were contributing
factors in 81% of fatal crashes.
• The most prevalent first harmful events for fatal
and serious injury crashes were overturning
(34.0%), collision with fixed object (27.6%), and

10. NOROOMFOR ONE MORE
Tell us about
potential dangers on the
road before another fatal crash
happens.
Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians: We need your input NOW.
Because there is no room for one more.
