National Initiatives:
• Promote and measure the use of data-driven approaches and resources
(e.g., Highway Safety Manual, Crash Modification Factors clearinghouse,
Systemic Safety Management selection tool) to identify and prioritize
safety projects. Integrate data-driven approaches and resources into
project selection, design, and construction processes
• Expand implementation of proven safety countermeasures, with an
emphasis on those States and Federal lands with a relevant safety
challenge
• Evaluate and enhance the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP)
and Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) processes using tools and
techniques appropriate to State needs
• Implement the newly enhanced focused approach for the safety programs
(e.g., Intersections, Pedestrians, and Roadway Departure) by delivering
training and technical assistance to Divisions, State DOTs, and other
partners.
