1.0 INTRODUCTION
Malaysian education system has shown remarkable progress in terms of curriculum and
infrastructure. Curriculum in Malaysia has been diversifying and updated to always meet the
current needs of our country. Similarly, the facilities provided. More and more schools built
and equipped with modern information technology, computer and so on. However, despite
the progress and the facility is still inadequate to the created and applied without bias,
particularly for social science subjects such as visual art. Facilities and new and different
approaches have been realized as collaboration between the school and the gallery or
museum to raise the interest and better understanding in the learning of the subject Visual
Arts Education.
Museum Magnet School Program is a project-based academic program conducted in
partnership with museums and schools. The program includes research, writing, creation of
objects, the creation of exhibitions, and public speaking. It emphasizes the critical
investigation and analysis in the learning process-oriented environment and fully interactive
disciplines and expanding beyond the walls of the museum classroom, community, and
world. Programs like this will expose students to a learning environment that is different from
usual because students can understand what they are learning faster once the teaching and
learning process more effective. This is because students can see and feel their own examples
of historical material or artwork in reality.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Education is a continuous process. In the philosophy of National Education, the goal of
education is to create a balanced physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. Only
proper education can help a person overcome the challenges of life in the future. According
to Dewey (1987) in Arman (2001), schools are social institutions and education is a process
of life. In his book "Democracy and Education" Dewey (1916), pointed out that the existence
of a community is through teaching and learning as well as transmission through
communication. But most schools in Malaysia have failed to create the spirit of love
academics and students fail to develop interest in the appreciation of art and history. This is
because the only activities carried out in the classroom, whereas activities outside the
classroom are also very important as visits to art galleries or museums to demonstrate clearly
too specific examples.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Problems in performance and academic achievement are closely associated with the activities
carried out in schools. Based on the above discussion, it was found that most students are less
interested and less motivated in learning the subject of visual art. This study will investigate
the influence of a museum or gallery in the process of teaching and learning in schools.
This study was done as most of the teaching and learning process in the school at present
only conducted in the classroom only causes students not to know and understand an example
of a clearly expressed by teachers. This is because not all students at the school to reflect on
their own what the teacher explained. In addition, most teenagers or students are not
interested to make a museum or art gallery was one of the places that should be visited and
they do not know the importance of museums and galleries to themselves and society. It is
hoped that this study will be able to meet the needs of various stakeholders, especially the
serving teachers, government employees are learning, education researchers and university
students as a reference.
1.3 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The general objective of this study are:
1. To assess the level of perception,
2. Awareness
3. An importance and effectiveness of school-museum magnet program in teaching and
learning in schools.
1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Several questions were identified:
1. the extent of the overall effectiveness of the School-Museum Magnet Program.
2. the level of students' perception of the effectiveness of the school and School-
Museum Magnet program
3. the level of students awareness of the effectiveness of School-Museum Magnet
Program.
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Hopefully, this research will be able to:
1. provide guidance to teachers what are the factors that influence students' interest in
visual art.
2. Permission is a guide to the teacher what characteristics are preferred by students to
motivate students to continue to learn.
3. A museum or gallery as the second school to get information and learn of its
importance in improving student performance.
1.6 LIMITATION OF STUDY
The scope of this study focuses on teachers in high school and middle school students only.
1.7 CONCLUSION
It is hoped that this study shows the importance and advantages Museum Magnet School
Program conducted by each school in Malaysia. In addition, this study may be used as a
benchmark and reference for teachers and other researchers to improve teaching techniques
and thereby improving the quality of teaching and learning and achievement exam.

2.1 INTRODUCTION
Museum education is a learning process in a way to see the exhibits, touch the
artifacts on display and feel the strength, hear the explanations given about the collection of
artifacts on display, holds a collection of materials that are shown (experience) through
compilation or collection of artifacts on display at a museum (Condit: 1976).Educational
activities at the museum today has found the work by Kenneth Hudson (1976). He
summarizes the current development of the museum can be developed to introduce the
museum through education around the world to ensure they get the right information and
unfounded.
Museum education will ensure the preservation of cultural identity to continue to be
appreciated by the community. Museum is no longer a home store or agent for keeping the
artefacts.
There is a manifest proof of the matters relating to education as noted by George Brown
Goode (1897) at the end of the 19th century.
He suggested that the museum put a label on each of the display so that the visitors can find
out what is seen by them as well as considering the collection or display material.
Museum became a powerful institution as a means of education. Education is the theme of
the museum is constantly repeated during the last century not only in literature museum but
involve international museum conferences (International Council of Museums: 1972).
Olofsson (1979) explains in some countries, tourist guide and several programs have been conducted
for the purpose of education in a museum that can only be used by a small number of students and
student groups.
A fact that will set the truth through research done by the researchers, who carried out the
exhibition and science activities related artifacts. This would be beneficial to better
understanding of the past that have occurred (Stone & Molyneaux: 1994).
The purpose of the museum is to provide education and ensure that any information supplied
about a fact or truth is the truth.
A fact that will set the truth through research done by the researchers, who
carried out the exhibition and science activities related artefacts. This would
be beneficial to better understanding of the past that have occurred (Stone
& Molyneaux: 1994).
According to Olofsson (1979), the purpose of the museum education research is to determine
the conditions of a flow of information is on the right, give the professional the opportunity to
see the collections assembled, visitors to view material- exhibits can exchange ideas, their
sesame suggestions and support colleagues who are in the museum because in their
educational priorities of the manifest is still at a low level to strengthen and foster cultural
appreciation through education and heritage among Malaysians.

3.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter deals with matters relating to the methodology of the study. Researcher
on several aspects of the method that will be used in this study. These aspects include the
Research Design, Population and Sample, Instrumentation, Validity and realibility, Data
Collection, and Data Analysis Plan.
3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
The method used in this study is a descriptive survey. This descriptive study is a study
that aims to apply a phenomenon that is being used to gain information about the facts of
beliefs, feelings, desires and so on (Mohd Najib, 1990). A survey questionnaire was used in
this study. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics using the frequency.
According to Mohd Najib (2003), the survey is a method used to obtain information on past
traffic through the collection of all data, usually via a questionnaire. Quantitative data were
analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Kerlinger (1985) noted that this method is suitable to measure opinions, achievements
and attitudes of respondents. Another advantage of this method is the fact that the samples
need to respond at some point.
The questionnaire used in this study to examine the interest and involvement of teachers and
students in teaching and learning based on the Museum Magnet School Program, and see
how the problems faced by the teacher to carry out the program.
3.3 POPULATION AND SAMPLE
The study was carried out act at a school in Kulai Jaya, Johor. Chose this school based
researchers conveniently commute information. Respondents who selected a total of 50 Form
Five students of Visual Arts stream and 5 teachers who teach the subject.
3.4 RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The instrument used in this study is questionnaire of binary or "Yes-No". A questionnaire
given to the respondents are divided into four two parties ie Part A, B, C and D. Part A
consists of three questions that include questions about the student's background and Part B
consists of 15 questions covering the subject matter of the importance of the visual arts. Part
C is made from boiling 16 questions about the importance of the Museum pengjaran and
learning process in schools. Next Part D consists of the factors that influence school
achievement in Visual Arts which consists of 16 questions.
3.5 RESEARCH PROCEDURES
To launch the study poses a confirmation letter from the Faculty of Education,
Universiti Teknologi Mara obtained. With the help and cooperation of principals and
teachers, data collection and complete instructions for each of the questionnaire provided.
A questionnaire will be distributed by the researchers to selected schools to ensure
that there were no dropouts or delays in the delivery process. After all Respondent answered
the questionnaires, the researchers will collect the set of questionnaire to enable researchers
to analyze.
3.6 DATA ANALYSIS
Analysts data involve activities such as organizing, selecting, combining and
scheduling data has been collected (Mohd Najib, 2000). Data processing is done is to get
useful information from the data.
Having collected the questionnaires, the researchers analyzed studies on the raw data.
Then the data were analyzed by using the Statistical Package For Science (SPSS) version
10.0 to find out the frequency, and the average value per share
.
3.7 CONCLUSION
There are various methods to do a researcher in conducting the study. Each topic will
be examined must provide appropriate research methodology. Each study should be carried
out in order to satisfy the findings of this study as required.

  • 1. BAB I 1.0 INTRODUCTION Malaysian education system has shown remarkable progress in terms of curriculum and infrastructure. Curriculum in Malaysia has been diversifying and updated to always meet the current needs of our country. Similarly, the facilities provided. More and more schools built and equipped with modern information technology, computer and so on. However, despite the progress and the facility is still inadequate to the created and applied without bias, particularly for social science subjects such as visual art. Facilities and new and different approaches have been realized as collaboration between the school and the gallery or museum to raise the interest and better understanding in the learning of the subject Visual Arts Education. Museum Magnet School Program is a project-based academic program conducted in partnership with museums and schools. The program includes research, writing, creation of objects, the creation of exhibitions, and public speaking. It emphasizes the critical investigation and analysis in the learning process-oriented environment and fully interactive disciplines and expanding beyond the walls of the museum classroom, community, and world. Programs like this will expose students to a learning environment that is different from usual because students can understand what they are learning faster once the teaching and learning process more effective. • 2. 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Education is a continuous process. In the philosophy of National Education, the goal of education is to create a balanced physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. Only proper education can help a person overcome the challenges of life in the future. According to Dewey (1987) in Arman (2001), schools are social institutions and education is a process of life. In his book "Democracy and Education" Dewey (1916), pointed out that the existence of a community is through teaching and learning as well as transmission through communication. But most schools in Malaysia have failed to create the spirit of love academics and students fail to develop interest in the appreciation of art and history. This is because the only activities carried out in the classroom, whereas activities outside the classroom are also very important as visits to art galleries or museums to demonstrate clearly too specific examples. Malaysian education system has shown remarkable progress in terms of curriculum and infrastructure. Curriculum in Malaysia has been diversifying and updated to always meet the current needs of our country. Similarly, the facilities provided. This study was done as most of the teaching and learning process in the school at present only conducted in the classroom only causes students not to know and understand an example of a clearly expressed by teachers. This is because not all students at the school to reflect on their own what the teacher explained. In addition, most teenagers or students are not interested to make a museum or art gallery was one of the places that should be visited and they do not know the importance of museums and galleries to themselves and society. It is hoped that this study will be able to meet the needs of various stakeholders, especially the serving teachers, government employees are learning, education researchers and university students as a reference.

  • 6. BAB II 2.1 INTRODUCTION Museum education is a learning process in a way to see the exhibits, touch the artifacts on display and feel the strength, hear the explanations given about the collection of artifacts on display, holds a collection of materials that are shown (experience) through compilation or collection of artifacts on display at a museum (Condit: 1976).Educational activities at the museum today has found the work by Kenneth Hudson (1976). He summarizes the current development of the museum can be developed to introduce the museum through education around the world to ensure they get the right information and unfounded. Museum education will ensure the preservation of cultural identity to continue to be appreciated by the community. Museum is no longer a home store or agent for keeping the artefacts. There is a manifest proof of the matters relating to education as noted by George Brown Goode (1897) at the end of the 19th century. He suggested that the museum put a label on each of the display so that the visitors can find out what is seen by them as well as considering the collection or display material. Museum became a powerful institution as a means of education. Education is the theme of the museum is constantly repeated during the last century not only in literature museum but involve international museum conferences (International Council of Museums: 1972). Olofsson (1979) explains in some countries, tourist guide and several programs have been conducted for the purpose of education in a museum that can only be used by a small number of students and student groups. A fact that will set the truth through research done by the researchers, who carried out the exhibition and science activities related artifacts. This would be beneficial to better understanding of the past that have occurred (Stone & Molyneaux: 1994). The purpose of the museum is to provide education and ensure that any information supplied about a fact or truth is the truth.
  • 7. A fact that will set the truth through research done by the researchers, who carried out the exhibition and science activities related artefacts.
