10. Applying Business Intelligence
One of the largest U.S. retail shops found that the sale of disposable
diapers had some connection with the sale of beer. This type of
information is quite strange at first and if we analyze the data
"manually“ we would probably ignore it.
11. Applying Business Intelligence
People involved in this "discovery" decided to make a simple change
in the array of products ... Put beers close to disposable diapers.
Instantly the sale of diapers and beer shot!
12. Conclusions
BI has a great potential to retrieve information on where you least expect it!
Business Intelligence can be a gold mine for the organizations.
We can conclude that business intelligence is a trend among organizations that
seek to stand out from its competitors.
We also conclude that the decision-making process becomes more secure once
we have reliable information about the organization.

Hello, my name is Ronan Soares. I would like to have your attention. I will present to you the importants of business intelligence in the organization.
The first section will be about the scenario of Business Intelligence in the organizations. Thereafter, I will talk about some problems, the process to decision-making and tool. I have a example of applying business intelligence to you. The last part will talk some conclusions from the utilization of business intelligence in the organizations.
I’d like to start by the scenarios we have today in many companies. Nowadays the market is very competitive and decision-making is something that cannot be overlooked. These decisions that separate the success from failure in organizations. It’s often the key of success of a company. We cannot make important decisions about our business without based in any information solid and consistent. Unfortunately you cannot make any decision on data that don’t bring knowledge for decision-making accepted.
What’s happening? This is because to many companies lack of information, processes, and tools.
As an illustration of this, Imagine the manager realizes that sales decreased and profits were down. So what does he do? He requests a lot of reports of financial, logistics and marketing. Once in hand with reports, he would put his staff to analyze them and find out where the problem is. The manager is crazy with a lot of information.
To give you another example… Imagine a company is doing very well but the top management wants to increase its market share more or optimize internal processions. How they will draw their strategies? How they know if their processes can improve or should leave the way these?
Have a look at the flow process. This is a typical decision-process. You have a lot of input channels with data from some systems. You start analysis this. You review of results to identify the reliability of the information. The last part will be determinate actions (decision-making). Too time between Analysis and Review causes disconnected Action and you have a problem. Because you are taking a wrong decision for at the moment or At the moment, the best decision would be one that you aren’t seeing. But, how you solve this problem ?
You need to have BI tools. … … … You will use a technology environment to integrate the data automatically generating quality information to provide business insights (knowledge for decision-making).
To illustrate this point, we will understand how the BI environment work. Basically they are formed in three layers. The first and most basic, includes the systems, databases and flat files. These systems have a lot of data of several area, for example: ERP, CRM y etc. The second includes a data warehouse platform, which allows databases to be analyzed and data extracted. The third layer consists of modules for consultation, analysis and statistics, or process in which each sector of the organization has more specialized modules.
As an illustration of this environment helping in decision-making, Now, what is the relationship between diapers and beer? One of the largest U.S. retail shops found to analyze their databases, that the sale of disposable diapers had some connection with the sale of beer. This type of information is quite strange at first, if we analyze the data "manually" and we would probably ignore it. As one goes back to crying babies, sleepless nights and bad smell (if you understand me) the other is easily associated with barbeque, good music and pleasant conversation.
People involved in this "discovery" decided to make a simple change in the array of products ... Put the beers coming from the shelves of disposable diapers. The result: when mothers asked their husbands to buy diapers, they went to the store and saw the beer right there close, and therefore, they took advantage to take some home, almost instantly the sale of diapers and beer shot! Or The explanation goes that when fathers are sent out on an errand to buy diapers, they often purchase a six-pack of their favorite beer as a reward.
Date To conclude, these are some of outcome that your organization will have if using Business Intelligence. This is a great potential of BI tools. You can retrieve information on where you least expect it! And you know a highly competitive market any extra information can make your profits soar and leave your competition wondering what you did so miraculous. Business Intelligence when deployed with the right tools is, without any exaggeration, a gold mine for the organizations. Remember that they are an invaluable aid to managers in the process of making decisions and generating marketing strategies. We can conclude that investing in business intelligence is a trend among organizations that seek to stand out from its competitors. BI will help you know your competitors and see how to differentiate them. We also conclude that the decision-making process becomes more secure; once we have reliable information about the reality of the organization and that through them. We can trace the path of success of our organization.
