2007 QUIZ AND CHAIRMANSHIP TURNOVER CEREMONY
GUIDELINES FOR MATH-SCIENCE QUIZ, RESEARCH POSTER
PRESENTATION, JINGLE CONTEST AND ON-THE-SPOT
POSTER-MAKING CONTEST
A. LSC QUIZ
Contestant must:
a. be a bonafide tertiary student of a member institution who have not earned any
bachelor’s degree;
b. participate in one field only; and
c. be non-champion in the field to be participated.
• Official list of delegation, signed by the College/University Head, and certification
from the Registrar’s Office that contestants are officially enrolled, should be
submitted to the host institution three weeks before the contest date.
Mechanics
1. Each school will be presented by a total of eight students, two per subject area.
2. One coach will be assigned per subject area.
3. Questions/subject matters to be taken will deal the following:
a. Biology - General Biology (100% concepts, theories, and principles)
b. Chemistry - General Chemistry ( 50% theories and concepts; 50%
problem solving)
c. Mathematics - Algebra, Plane, Trigonometry, and Analytic Geometry
(100% problem solving)
d. Physics - Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Modern
Physics (50% theories and concepts; 50% problem solving)
4. Questions/problems will be prepared by the consultants from non-member institutions
who are considered authorities in the four subject areas. They shall prepare ten (10)
easy questions, ten (10) average, and five (5) difficult questions plus additional tie-
breaking questions. Easy questions shall be given 1 pt., 3 pts. for average, and 5 pts.
for difficult questions.
5. Said consultants will serve as the quiz masters in their specific field.
6. Uniform size of paper will be used for the questionnaires (half of a short bond paper).
A copy of each question will be distributed (facedown) to each team one at a time, to
be answered within a given time frame as determined by the consultant. Reading and
answering of the questions will be done as soon as the signal is given by the
consultant. The expected number of participating institutions is 27.
7. After the participants have given their answer, the questions will be read and the
corresponding correct answer will given by the consultant.
8. Complaints/clarifications may be directed by the participant (not by a coach) to the
consultant, right after the correct answer is given. The decision of the consultant is
final.
9. No negative point will be appropriated to any incorrect answer.
10. The overall champion and the four runners-up will be determined by ranking. In case
of ties for the first five places, the grand total points will be considered. In case of tie
in both ranks and grand total points, both will be given the appropriate award.
11. Only white board and marker should be used during the quiz.
12. There will be assigned numbers to each participating institution for identification,
especially during announcement of scores.
2. 13. Official scorer will be on stage. Additional tally boards for each area (Biology,
Chemistry, Mathematics, & Physics) and another tally board for the over-all tabulation
of scores will be provided).
14. A distance of one meter must be provided on all sides, in between the contestants and
the audience, during the quiz.
B. Poster Presentation of Researches and Inventions
1. Any member institution of the Luzon Science Consortium (LSC) can submit entry to
the poster competition.
2. Researches qualified for entry should be conducted from the year 2003 to present.
3. Researches conducted by previous students can be submitted for entry with the adviser
presently employed to the participating institution presenting and with proper citation
of the researchers/ authors /students.
4. The poster should highlight technologies on research breakthroughs on alternative
energy.
5. Entries should be made in one whole piece of illustration board (3 ft x 4 ft) or any
material of the same size. All visuals (pictures, adjoagrams and descriptions) must
capture the most important features of the technology or innovation the researcher
wants to impart.
6. All posters should be brought by the researchers during the exhibit. Entry for the
competition has to be registered.
7. Criteria for judging the best poster will be as follows:
a. Originality (Presentation) - 40%
b. Clarity in message - 30%
c. Visual impact - 30%
TOTAL - 100%
C. On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest:
a. Materials must be provided by the LSC.
b. There will be three winners in this category (Cash incentives will be given
depending on the LSC Councils recommendations and approval).
c. There will be no equivalent scores to be added in the overall tabulation of Math-
Science Quiz scores for the winners in this category, but rather a special citation be
given to the winning participating institutions.
d. Judges (experts in this area) will be invited by the Secretariat.
e. Every judge will be given an honorarium of P 1,000.00.
General Rules:
1. Each participating institution must only have one contestant.
2. He/she must be officially enrolled but not a second courser.
3. The poster must be relevant to the theme set by the LSC.
(Theme: “Mathematics & Science for Alternative Fuel and
Energy Technology Development”)
4. In addition, a sub-theme will be provided by the judges anchored with the general
theme during the contest period.
3. 5. The poster must be drawn on a ¼ piece mat board using different pastel colors
provided by LSC.
6. Contestants are given 2 hours to finish the poster and will be judged based from
the following criteria:

D. Jingle Contest:
a. There will be three winners in this category (Cash incentives will be given
depending on the LSC Councils recommendations and approval).
b. There will be no equivalent scores to be added in the overall tabulation of Math-
Science Quiz scores for the winners in this category, but rather a special citation be
given to the winning participating institutions
c. Judges (experts in this area) will be invited by the Secretariat.
d. Every judge will be given an honorarium of P 1,000.00.
General Rules:
1. Each participating institution must only have one contestant.
2. He/she must be officially enrolled but not a second courser.
3. The song must be original in lyrics (English or Filipino) while the music/melody
could be original or an adaptation and must run within 3 to 4 minutes.
4. It will be accompanied by any instrument played by the contestant.
5. Lyrics must be relevant to the theme set by LSC.
6. The criteria for judging are as follows:
