Thanksgiving
1. THANKSGIVING
In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an
autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first
Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.
2. THE PILGRIMS
The Pilgrims were a religious group who wanted to separate
from the Church of England.
3. THE MAYFLOWER
In 1620, 102 Pilgrims travelled on the Mayflower ship from
England to Plymouth, Massachusetts.
4. WINTER CAME
Life was difficult, the Pilgrims didn’t know how to grow crops or
hunt and by the end of winter their population was reduced to a
half.
5. SQUANTO
Squanto was a Native American who spoke English because he had
travelled to England. He was an interpreter and he and people from
his tribe helped the Pilgrims to grow corn and to fish.
6. THE HARVEST
In 1621, the harvest was so good that the Pilgrims and the
Native Americans gathered to celebrate it.
7. A FAMILY CELEBRATION
Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated in the US every fourth
Thursday of November. The family gather and have a special
meal.
8. BLACK FRIDAY
The next day to Thanksgiving is Black Friday. It is a holiday and
Americans enjoy a long weekend.
